A good backpack (where?)

I'll throw in my .02cents as well. My favorite two packs are my Osprey Aether 60(2001 model, lighter than the current model) and my Granite Gear Precipe. Both great packs, and can be found for less than $250. I'm not an ultralighter, but I do believe in the lighter the gear, the better. Best packs? Check out McHale packs. Totally custom, totally worth it.

If you buy that GoLite, you'll have to have a small down bag and a complete ultralight outfit, of the smallest, most compact good quality stuff.

In other words, that is a specialist bag. So be warned.

IMO Golite is a great pack but maybe not what you will really be happy with for your intended use.

If you want to save a little $$$ get a medium or large A.L.I.C.E. pack w/ frame. These packs will hold a ton of stuff & are super tough  I have a medium alice w/out the frame & it works out great for myself, plent of space, & you don't need to worry about it, this thing is probably one of the toughest packs out there :D

I live in Indiana and use a TAC FORCE lg hydration pack. It is high quality and has good stitching, not too big and has 2 large pockets for storage. I store enough to survive comfortably for a few days with room to spare. I only paid $39.99+tax.

do you think a good bungee cord could strap some snowshoes to the back without snapping those loops?

Due to the small waist belt the pack will bounce a little as you naturally walk. This will put a little extra stress on these loops with a heavy load like snow shoes attached to them. They may break eventually but should hold it. I know you have made up your mind already, but maybe you should look into getting a backpack with a daisy chain on it for attaching to snow shoes. These are much more durable then those little loops.
