A Good day with Good people

Deet. G.P.

I pulled a few off my shirt when I got back home. John had 1 on him when we were out. They don't like Mike however...

Its part of life over here, we just deal with it.

We got 'em here too, and it's really concerning me. I am reluctant to use DEET because of taking the finish off my glasses, some knife handles (like my Gerber Mk I, many moons ago) and my camera. Plus I hate the smell of the stuff.

In the U.S. you guys can buy Permanone, but it's not allowed up here.

I've been using my dog's tick shampoo. Not sure how safe it is, but it kills 'em pretty quick ;)

Hey Theo, probably because it contains Permethrin. That's something I have to check out. Does it have any adverse reactions on any materials, like plastic, nylon, etc.? And how have you been using it?

Doc

Let's have a look.
Active ingredients: Permethrin .1%, Piperonyl butoxide .5%
It also has colloidal oatmeal, whatever that is. Smells pretty good and hasn't caused any reactions that I've noticed ... yet

I rub it on my arms and legs and then lightly rinse it off. When I get out of the woods I use it as soap and shampoo in the shower.

Theo, Do you go around smelling your wife's butt? Maybe spend a lil too much time by a fire hydrant? I would say attempt to lick your self but, cmon.....

Great. Frolicking in the woods, chopping and playing with knives, building shelters....I spent twelve hours chasing a poor fellow's blood pressure long enough to make him a DNR  You guys make me sick :grumpy:

Great pics guys! Mike Jake is such a handsome dog.

Funny you should mention it, I do have one of these in the apartment

But that is not where I eat dinner, well at least not on a regular basis :D

Yeah Doc, notice how Tony never disclosed if he went to the doctor or not for a Lyme test! Yesterday I pulled 21 deer tick nymphs off my 4 cats in total before they came in the house. It's a really bad season for them down here in NJ right now.

Doc, see if you can order the Sawyer Pump Pemethrin spray for clothes from Campmor.

wow - that looks like a great time. Good use of the things that are presented to you to make a shelter. I see an old 2x4 in the mix.

The look on the dogs' faces crack me up. They look to be saying "ya'll two legged animals are weird"

I wish I was closer and cold have joined.

Sorry to be tardy to the party... I fell asleep while putting my son to bed last night.... It was a great time... Raised swamp beds are great.... Great..Guys.. Great spot... I got t get back there with some fishing gear. AS far as ticks go I uses deet on my feet and up to mid shin, hands and arms up to the shoulder, Neck and waist.. I don;t worry about my clothes too much.. as far as sandals go, I find it much easier to spot ticks on my bare skin than on clothing... Can't wait to get back. Nest time our "2-man shelter" will be a little more cozy..Right Tony?

Ticks are a real problem, knowing their MO can help avoid the really bad areas.

Avoiding areas with tall grass and other low vegetation can minimize your potential exposure.

We where smart in selecting an area with a tall canopy and a fairly open forest floor.

There where a few sections of ferns and briars, but these had a trail hacked through them.

Brushing against low vegetation is a sure way to invite those nasty critters along for the ride.

If hiking in areas of tall grass and other low vegetation I dress with ticks in mind.

Wardrobe, repellents and awareness, combined with diligence in your post hike body check, can reduce your exposure to tick borne diseases.

It's become a tradition for my wife to check me for ticks when I get home for the woods...it has lead to some enjoyable post woods encounters as well... SO here's to ticks !!!!

Eating 1 or 2 garlic cloves a day will do wonders for keeping ticks off. Of course you have to have your significant other involved in this also or it can get pretty lonely. I usually pickle about 200 at a time. My local market has them already peeled. Pickling them seem to reduce the bad breath factor. I use garlic powder on my dogs food and he gets very few ticks. It take a while for it to work. Cant get my cat to go along with this and he's covered.--KV

At Mike. Thanks for capturing the worst possible picks of me

A few shots featuring Tony’s more photogenic side.

Great pic's guy's, look's like a lot of fun.

Far as tick's go ,last time I was out with Taz, we had over 20 tick's. Mostly on pant leg's and clothes, started picking them off as soon as we got back to the truck.

They are bad here this year.....if it ain't the tick's, it's mosquito's
