a good folder

the bryd knives are realy good deals the steel is not the bestfor edge holding but it is easy to sharpen

I grabbed a micarta GEC that I really like

spyderco native and the waved delica are also good to go, or their h1 salt folders

griptillian is a great choice too.

there have been some fine suggestions here, thats for sure...

mine would be,
crkt m21...either 02, or 04 depending on desired length...
these afantastic knives at a very fair cost...imo

(Excluding multi's/SAK's) of the knives i own the one(s) i would pick would be....
(lockblades) Buck 110/111/112 or the Case Copperlock.
One handed openers-Spyderco Tenacious.

The new Buck Vantage pro S30V looks to be a winner as well (i have one on the way).

What about slipjoints?
Maybe a Stockman or a Barlow knife?
If you like tiny knives the Buck Mini-trapper knife is a neat little knife.
Its very sturdy but so small you'll forget its in your pocket.

Do you want to pocket carry or sheath carry this knife?

Wait!! Stop!
Nobody mentioned a Kershaw RAM.
Take a look at it - for the price, its a great slim strong locking folder. The flipper is one of the smoothest I've felt from a production knife.

Buck 110 from Wally World - should be about 30.00. Has a nylon sheath instead of the leather. The nylon can be carried horizontally or vertically.

Save up for a Boker folding hunter. I handled one the other day. The fit and finish is just extraordinary.

Just to throw something different out there, how about a high-end kit knife? The DDR series by Darrel Ralph (available at Knifekits.com) is excellent. I have a DDR-3 with recurved blade and cocobolo scales that has served me well on a few outings. It locks up like a tank and was a blast to finish off - and it fits your price range with room to spare.

All the best,

- Mike

Buck Alpha Dorados - my favourite EDC.

Doc

BM Griptilian all the way - I love mine! It opens smoothly with one hand is can be closed very easily with one hand. It also fits great in hand.

Well, my vote would be for a Spyderco Para-Military. G-10, S30V (or D2), compression lock.... it's a hell of a folder in a slim, light-weight package. YMMV, but I think it's the finest production folder ever to hit the market.

Traditional or tacticool? If traditional, you could look into Case, Queen, G.E.C, Schatt & Morgan among others.

Sounds like you want something "substantial" and so I wouldnt suggest a slippie - it should have some locking mechanism.. maybe the Case TrapperLock?

I dont think you can go wrong with the Buck 110 either.

I like large traditional folders like this Grohmann and my Schrade 125OT,

but I'm getting addicted to the one-hand opening benefits of my Grip, and that orange handled one online looks sweet.:)

I really like Grohmann knives and i've always wanted one of those!
What do you think of it, steel/fit and finish etc.

The main reason i haven't bought one is the best price i have found is still 3 or 4 times the price i would pay for a similar Buck 110.
