a good folder

I've had a Buck 110 for over 30 years but they are heavy and require two hands to open. Last year I picked up a Benchmade mini-Grip and full-size grip. My daily carry now is the mini-Grip. There are so superior to the 110 that there's no comparison whatsoever. Nothing wrong with the 110, it's just the Benchmade makes a far better folder.

I really like Grohmann knives and i've always wanted one of those!
What do you think of it, steel/fit and finish etc.

The main reason i haven't bought one is the best price i have found is still 3 or 4 times the price i would pay for a similar Buck 110.

Fit and finish are great and the willow leaf blade is very functional. I would compare the steel to the 420 of the Buck. It takes a good edge, but retention is not as good as the 154CM of the Grips.

The Buck is awfully hard to beat for value :)

I share CSG's thoughts on the Grips. I have both the mini and full-size and they are just great utilitarian blades with excellent steel and usability. The mini's steel liners run the length of the handle. which provides for a very strong little knife. I've had mine for years with no issue.

so ive narrowed it down to the spyderco raven or the cara cara. input?

definitely pocket carry

im looking at the kershaw leek now. i like the look of it.

i found a tenecious online for about $31 bucks. i think im gonna get it.

Come on fellas, after two pages he has already set his sights on a few good knives and ya'll keep throwing other stuff at him that he's not interested in :o

The Spyderco Byrd Cara Cara in the G-10 handle is an excellent knife for the money as well as the Spyderco Tenacious. I owned a tenacious for a little while and it is just about a perfect knife.

It has a nicely done liner lock, grippy G-10 handles, excellent blade shape, the edge holds quite well and is easy to sharpen up, etc.... I'd say the tenacious is probably exactly what you're wanting. It's all one handed, I believe it has multiple carry options as well  It's something that you can beat up and not feel guilty and is easily replaceable.

I hope this helps, good luck shopping, J.

Find yourself an older case trapper. I have one from the 70's and I love that knife. I just recently received a kershaw needs work that I am trying out as an edc...if you can get past the klingon meets i dont know look it is a decent knife. The spring assist is good and it locks up super tight...a bargain honestly.

buck if you can use two hands, did see a clamp on thumb stud a guy had once. seemed to work well. my choice, way out of the price range of knives listed, would be a Strider. They are pretty much indestructable. PT EDC

Hey CSG,

You can open a Buck 110, one-handed, as well as a 112. Pinch grip the edge of the blade and flick it allowing the weight of the handle to swing the knife open. Then just slide your hand along.

Spy. Tenacious. Love this knife, awesome, for the lower end of your budget. Wish they made the same model in a higher end steel, as I feel the ergo's are perfect for me, and I love the full flat grind.

They do have a higher end version, it's the Spyderco Sage ;) Carbon fiber handle, S30V steel, and easily under $100

They are very close in size and shape, even has a liner lock as well.

edit: here's a link to spyderco's page on the sage: http://www.spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=332

Doc, seems like a rather risky way to open one of those. No thanks.

Start with the Tenacious for something like $35 shipped from ebay, and while you are using the heck out of it, start planning your next purchase. Thats the way things work around here. :)

I am waiting fo the Buck Vantage Pro to become available in local stores. Locking 3 1/4" S30V blade with a CNC contoured G10 handle with a low profile pocket clip.

I will admit that I have started trying to fill my knife needs (which are wants not needs) by choosing American made products when ever possible, so I look at companies like Buck and Kershaw first before I look at companies whose products are made overseas.
