I am so jealous. The only fatwood I have ever used is store bought and it looks NOTHING like what you have. I can see the pitch just dripping off the sides! It's insane man.

Does fatwood only come from pine trees? I've never found any, but I did not know other trees could become "fatty".

After melting it down and straining it thru the GF's strainer (tee-hee :D) i ended up with about a liter of premium yellowish color pitch. I still need to make pitch glue out of it...........

Here in NJ, I have yet to see a fir/pine tree...
 
Bushman 5 , you have inspired me to seek out a whole lot more fatwood in my neck of the woods ( Mors Kochanski country).
My new BK9 should help :thumbup::D
 
I grew up in Oregon and was a Boy Scout and am a little bit pissed off at my masochistic leaders who never taught us about fatwood... "That's right, boys, we're gonna be gone for 3 days and you're not allowed to bring any food - you wanna eat, you better find/catch something! Oh, and you're only allowed 1 match per day for fires. Did I mention it's been raining for the last 9 months straight?" Oh how I wish I had known about fatwood! All that I know about fatwood I've learned from Blade Forums and the internet so I'm hoping that is enough to enable me to be able to harvest some. Now if med school would just lighten up a bit for me to be able to get out in the woods!

Nice haul, Bushman5! Have to say I get pretty envious each time you post!

BTW - how much for a bag so I can experiment with some "Grade A" Canadian fatwood? :D
