A good starting Benchmade?

I would definitely agree that the Griptilian is a perfect starting point. My first Benchmade was a Mini Bone Collector, I needed something small for work and wanted to try out D2. I love the Mini Bone Collector.. But I wanted something bigger so I bought a Griptilian 550HG, which is an amazing knife. I love the look and feel of the Grip, and it is the sharpest knife I own. It is also very very light, it carries amazingly well. It rides everyday in my left pocket, with my ZT 200 in my right pocket.. which is a perfect offset. I would highly recommend both the Griptilian and the Bone Collector, I like each for different reasons but they are both amazing knives... and they both have thumbholes which if you like Spydercos is a plus, for me it was a huge plus.

The ares 730-1202 is one of the best benchmade's I have. M390 steel and thick liners make it just an amazing knife. It is as good an example of the axis lock as you will find. It's limited so if want it don't wait.

Go for the design that speaks to you the most. I wanted the 950 Rift for the longest time, but never got around to getting one. Then I started looking at Bali-Songs. The 53 was screaming at me so I had to go that route with BM first.

I love the AFCK 800 (out of production), any 710 (elegant, light), and Contego. The Contego is my newest --- terrific lock and blade movement right out of the box (could be the best deal with it's M4 steel and relatively low price) --- more hard core than the 710. 710 probably safest choice --- and it is a terrific looker.
