A great "do-everything", "last forever" large clip folder

If you're allready pretty much set on a 710, great! I love mine and now you could even choose an M2 blade if you'd like.
More economically, theres any of the Cold Steel Vaguero folders or even many clip-point folders in the Spyderco line. Good luck. :)

You've got some good knives Youngcutter. But what about the SERE? I'm telling you, check it out!!!

Geez, I thought this post died like 2 months ago...

Ah well,
a bit of revisement then, since it seems to be alive and kicking:

I current own both a Kershaw Blackout and an Outdoor Edge Zytel Magna, additionally i've a Spyderco Native, Spyderco Chinook, Camillus EDC in 154CM, and Camillus 420HC Arclite on the way for christmas.
Next on my to get list includes the following:
#1 Camillus D2 Arclite
#2 BK&T C/UK7
#3 Outdoor Edge Impulse
and then either a Benchmade Griptilian, possibly followed by an AFCK, or a Benchmade Axis AFCK, haven't really decided yet.

It seems you like Camillus' Darrel Ralph collaborations. I just received my D2 EDC from AG Russell on Monday. It is AWESOME. I'm surprised you don't have the EDC with the Taloniteª blade on your list of "to buy's". With the awesome ergonomics that Darrel and Camillus have put into the EDC, it is a steal with the Taloniteª blade.

rockspyder,

I like ALL Darrel Ralph designs, unfortunately I haven't got the cash to have him handmake me stuff, so my goal is to eventually acquire all Outdoor Edge and Camillus collaborations with him, the only reason the Paragee isn't on my imminent to get list is because i'll have the EDC <grin>.
Also, i'm of the opinion that 154CM is plenty performance for my EDC, so I don't feel the need to bump up to Talonite.

Peter,
i'll be frank, i've never handled the SERE, and since the only stocking knife dealers around here are actually gun shops, I doubt I ever will.
The SERE looks very unimpressive to me from the pics i've seen, and i'm not willing to take the $100+ plunge on something like that that i've never handled before.

The Cold Steel Voyager line are almost indestructable and not that expensive. If you are looking for a real bargain, look at the SOG AutoClips. Very nice, even though they are drop points and not clip points.
Good luck,
Matt

You misunderstand,

I wasn't looking necessarily for a clip point, but a folder with a POCKET CLIP, I don't like carrying my folders in belt sheaths...

You might want to bump it up on your "imminent" to buy list, if you ever want to get it. I believe I read over in the "Outdoor Edge-Edge Tech" forum that the Paragee, Impulse, Magna, etc. were going to be discontinued because of lagging sales.

Dude, never judge a knife by its crummy photos. If your list of options does not include the SERE 2000, you are cutting yourself very short.

Okay, since you are still checking this thread, I might like to suggest the MicroTech LCC . For a short while here on the forums, it was at the top of almost everybody's list of folders. I still carry mine, and have never been disappointed. It is a little heavy, but other than that, nothing to complain about. You could probably find a very good condition used one on the for sale forums, or post in the wanted section and find one for less than $100. It didn't take you long to fill your pockets with great knives, though.

I can't stay out of this any longer. I recently got a large Carson #4 with carbon scales, Ti liners and a Talonite blade. The knife is super tough, super sharp and bomb-proof. The only problem is that it looks so damn good that I don't carry it very often.

ok, ok, i'll take another look at the SERE

Daniel, the LCC is indeed an impressive knife, and I wouldn't be shocked to see one in my future, but it is a little expensive in new condition.

Santa Cruz, if I aint willing to shell out for a Reeve I sure as hell aint willing to shell out for a Carson, no offense but I just plain can't afford handmades.

Hey I was over at the Al Mar site and saw this interesting tidbit:

Al Mar SERE Operator...

5" blade(!!!)

any clues as to what materials this would be made of, if it's affordable I want one :)

Also what action are the SEREs? Liner Locks?

btw is Al Mar even American? If not what nationality is it?

The Al Mar Operator is a five inch fixed blade. I think it is also VG-10 steel.

I'm not sure, but I think Al Mar is American. He is also deceased.

The SEREs are liner locks.

YoungCutter listen, Try a Mission MPF 1 in Titanium. No one has mentioned it yet, I have one with the plain edge, tanto point. I use it all the time and carry it everyday. I will last forever! You can leave it outside or in a mud puddle or in salt water, and you never have to worry about it getting eaten away by rust or corrosion. They are a little more expensive than you first said you wanted to spend, ( they cost approx. $390 USD. But I love mine and its easy to sharpen. It dosent hold an edge quite as long as some of the steel blades but like I said its real easy to sharpen and it cuts good and it is super heavy duty, and light. And it locks up solid.;)

YoungCutter,
Until I saved up for my Emerson waved Commander, I was well served by Spydeco & Benchmade products. You've had a great number of very good suggestions so far. Go to a knife store and/or a local gun show. Handle different models that fit your requirements for price/size/features; do not ignore how a particular knife "feels" in your hand.

Don't be surprised if you get "hooked" on some custom knives...it happens to all of us.

Good Luck

Ok "large clip folder"...Sifu says it all. Find one with solid lock up and the hunt is over. It's big and comfortable the tip is small enough to open envelopes, in D2 steel it's very strong. While it may be large it has a very "thin" profile which makes it easy to carry and the "sheeple" love it.

I like the Buck Strider as well, built like a brick:)house. Although it is kinda wide in the handle area. Also the g-10 handle is checkered very aggressivly.

You might want to look for a TOPS CQT Magnum..very big and stout.

If you in the market for a larger knife but not as big, I'd check out the Al-Mar SERE. It's very well made and very solid.

Less expensive: Spyderco Endura, Cold Steel XL Voyager

komondor, guess I don't want the operator after all...

Last Confederate, if you look at my above posts... you'll see that I get my Chinook on Dec 25 :)

bigtree1, Missions are nice, but horrendously expensive, not really my thing...

Centurian,
i've devoted alot of thought to getting a Sifu and decided against it because I am extremely turned off by the way REKAT seems to do business, also a good D2 Sifu aint cheap, and none of my 3 gun/knife dealers stock REKATs.

If you want a true do anything, last forever folder, pool the money from three or four of those production knives you plan on buying, even sell a couple that you already have, and buy a Sebenza, or a frame lock folder by Darrel Ralph, Tom Mayo, Kit Carson, or really any other maker who makes a hand made quality frame lock folder.
