A great "do-everything", "last forever" large clip folder

some worthy of consideration imho include:

BM 710

buck/strider folder ( a tank of a knife imho)

BM 800S AFCK from newgraham.com for $67.50, a lot of knife for the $$

MT LCC - a very good knife, and pretty too imho

spydie military/police/starmate - are all good

and mant others, but i have experience w/the above items .....

One other in particular that I would recommend now that it is out: Benchmade 806D2. AFCK shape, axis lock, D2 steel. Plain or serrated. Haven't handled one yet, but let me get back to you in a few days, after mine arrives. :D

Well it seems as though this post absolutely refuses to die... sooo here we go again.

the Al Mar SERE 2000 - appeals to me a little bit more everyday, but it bums me to see that "Made in Japan" :(
Ok folks, now that I own alot more knives than I did when I started this post i'd like to share some of my revelations:
1. Spyderco Rocks! I know I had my reservations about it before, and made some complaints about em being too thin, but that was before I tried alot more models - I am very pleased with my Chinook and Native and I look forward to acquiring more of the $50 FRN values (Calypso Jr., Delica, Endura, Matriarch, etc.)
2. The above FRNs are fine for me, for times when I really need an ungodly serious knife my Chinook fits the bill nicely - I wouldn't mind acquiring a couple other very serious $100 or so models (like the SERE, Buck Strider, or Emerson PSARK), but for now - i'm fine with my cheap, but high-quality spydies :)

What the hell is wrong with a knife being made in Japan?!? They make great knives! Some Spydercos are made in Japan. Are Spydercos bad quality?

America makes good knives, but that doesn't mean no other countries do. Do you really think that so many people on the forums would recommend the SERE2K, if it wasn't a terrific knife?
Please don't take any offense at my post, none was intended.

Jeff

I read on another thread that the Al Mar Sere has a thicker liner lock than most other brands. That should give some extra comfort for those concerned about the safety of liner locks.

WOW! I would like to give YoungCutter the award for having one of the longest running posts.

I would have to agree with your opinion of Spyderco, that make a great knife, and what's even better is the make a great knife consitantly.

I would not rule out an Al-Mar SERE, I played with one at a local shopa and the quality is VERY impressive. It is a very well built knife....may have to add one to the collection.

Since your a Spyderco fan, you might want to sometime when you get the cash add a Civilian to the collection. It has absolutly no utility purpose what so ever but it is one really cool knife.

I've had a great time following along with this over the months. One observation: YoungCutter you've already "afforded" that Carson that seemed so expensive only three months ago. No criticism intended; it seems to happen to lots of us.

Uhm... the only Carson I own is a busted up Zytel Magna...

I was referring to a custom Carson, which was suggested early on but rejected as way out of range. Again, not a criticism, just interesting how this happens.

92degrees,
Yeah... and what makes you think it ever got in range? I never noticed having $400 lying around...
Not flaming I just don't understand what you mean.

VERY cool! Much better than any pic I've seen so far. I had my doubts on the visuals of the SERE but this is "seriously to be considered" -stuff. After all the raving comments on its quality... :)

YoungCutter, I didn't mean to sound snide, I was only implying that by the time you buy 5-6 Spydies, you've spent enough to have bought that Carson. I've done the exact same thing. Just an observation. Enjoy.

I'm actually trying to decide which folder to buy aswell.
Like always I'm interested ONLY in "last forever" folders suitable for tactical close quarter combat situations.
It's definetely one of the following though:

1. Buck-Strider...because it's pretty indestructible.
2. Al Mar SERE 2000....because it's a real combat folder proven daily by instructors and other spec ops at Fort Bragg.
3. Strider GB....because it's simply amazin....quarter inch thick blade!! It's the stuff of wet dreams!LOL
4. Maybe perhaps the Chris Reeves large Sebenza that I never stop hearing about. But I'm not sure if I would want to get a second mortgage to get it-if I can choose the Buck-Strider instead.
The thing about the Sebenza is that from what I hear it is a true "last forever" type folder, sort of like the Busse fixed blades. You know what I mean, guaranteed for this life AND the next!!!

Uooohhh, so many knives so little money.

Posting late, but the Benchmade 710 McHenry & Williams in M2 tool steel is a great knife, you won't be disappointed. Now I'll go back and read the rest of the thread.

Heh, suppose you have a point 92,
but still, i'm not ready to spend that much money on ONE knife yet... maybe a few years down the line.
Also, I have a problem - it seems like the more I try to resist the SERE, the more it appeals to me, guess it's to my advantage that i'm broke then.

Emanual,
The reason sebenzas last so long is because people don't treat them the same as they would treat a Buck 110.
If you had a $300.00+ dollar knife, would you abuse it like a $30.00 knife?

Good luck,
Allen.

AllenC,
Very very true. I need to be careful about that.
