A guy wants to trade me a brand new Benchmade 551sbk with s30v Griptilian for my new Buck 124.

There is a difference in price, if you want the deal your buddy may need to put in some cash also.
Yeah on Bucks site the 124 is 200 i got It for 150 brand new however he is driving an hour to me to make the trade if we do it and his has the Serate’s edge

Don't feel compelled to make a trade unless you want the particular knife more than you want the one you have. In this case, unless you want that specific model grip - with noryl handles, modified sheepsfoot, black blade, serrations, s30v - there's no reason to consider it (unless, of course, you've decided you don't care for the Buck; and are looking at the trade as an easy way to be rid of it).

Are you saying it’s a bad trade? I’m still sorta new. I do Know my Buck is awesome and full tang and the Benchmade is obviously a folder but with great steel. Is sheepsfoot bad?

The BM Griptilian is the only BM knife I sold shortly after getting.
I just couldn't get past the hollow , cheap feeling handles.

As far as functionality , it's a good knife and if it's your first Axis lock folder, you might love it.
Also depending on your needs , you would probably get more use out of a folder.

Personally, I love large fixed blade knives, but hardly ever get the opportunity to actually use them , except hunting a few times a year.

Do you need a folder or fixed more? Based on the value of each, I would say the other guy needs to add some cash to the deal. I would value a combo edge or fully serrated as slightly less value then a plain edge.

What are your thoughts on this?...
for how long have you had
this "new" buck 124 already??!
and why did you buy it in the first place?
is it a standard model?
perhaps the buck year code
buck-datecode-graphic2.jpg

might be something to factor in??
do you get out in the open bush much?
and honestly, do you have a bunch of
fixed blades which fall within the same
category?
lastly, you must know that the griptillian
is benxhmade's top workhorse folder which
will see updates from time to time.
so if you go for this one don't let it sit
in the drawer and repeat history later ;-)
good or bad knife choices cannot be
predetermined unless they are well
documented as reigning lemonds...
so it boils down to your own intentions
as to the purpose of either knives.
good luck with the decision !

What I'm saying is what I said - don't feel compelled to make the trade unless that specific model is the one you want. It's not a bad trade unless YOU are dissatisfied with your choice afterwards.

Nothing wrong with a modified sheepsfoot - is a very useful blade shape.

Asking a bunch of strangers on the internet about which knife you want is, realistically, a little silly. We don't know you, what you like, or what your knife needs are. It opens the door to our preferences, based on our likes/dislikes. That's why most of us are being noncommittal.

That particular model griptilian isn't for me; but it's a popular knife that a lot of people love. A lot of people would find the Buck too big... but it's probably one of my favorite Buck fixed blades, even if it isn't something I could carry all the time.

Bucks website is msrp, you wont really be able to use that as a guide for a deal. It's normal the price you paid.

The grip in serrated would kill the deal for me.

All you need now is to sew the sheaths together.

@Makael made the sheath for me.

You like the 124. If you need/really want the Benchmade. Save up and buy it. You are losing $25 on the trade.

If you hated the 124 and wanted to dump it. It would be a different story. But you know you’ll end up replacing it.

I agree it’s a pass. Grips are dime a dozen. Got a new one off eBay for $80 little while back. Traded it away

I don’t recall a time when a Grip was difficult to track down, but I do remember when 124s were demanding a premium at gun shows, so personally I put more value on the 124. The serrations would be a deal breaker for me but some folks like that combo edge.
