A guy wants to trade me a brand new Benchmade 551sbk with s30v Griptilian for my new Buck 124.

Benchmade makes good knives. I own a few Griptilians, but mine are early versions with 440C blades, not S30V. So I can’t comment on Benchmade’s S30V, but BM’s 440C was pretty good.

I would still keep the Buck 124 instead of trading it for a Griptilian. Not only is the 124 worth more, but Griptilians are common and relatively easy to obtain. If you traded the 124 for the Grip, I think you’d be getting the short end of the deal.

The BM Griptilian is the only BM knife I sold shortly after getting.
I just couldn't get past the hollow , cheap feeling handles.

As far as functionality , it's a good knife and if it's your first Axis lock folder, you might love it.
Also depending on your needs , you would probably get more use out of a folder.

Personally, I love large fixed blade knives, but hardly ever get the opportunity to actually use them , except hunting a few times a year.
You can buy a folder. The Grip is okay; but it is utilitarian....the hollow feel to the handle is definitely there. My point is, though, that you can - and probably should - shop around for a folder you want. You can do better.

That Buck is a NICE knife.

I would not make that trade. He’s driving that far because he thinks he’s getting a better deal, and probably wants to dump the Griptilian.
