Hard to find a hot weather hat that keeps your head cool w/o making you look dorkey. When I first got into hiking and backpacking big time my choice was a Tilley T3. I wore it until it practically disintegrated.
I haven't been very happy with the super-cool (thermally speaking), nylon, ventilated hiking hats I've been using lately. Sometimes the engineer in me looks only at technical factors and comes up with headgear that could make a corpse chuckle. Think I'll get another Tilley.
I love those Akubras. I may get one of those too for dress wear, but I would never take it out into the desert. Too fine for that.
