A heads up for dealers accepting Paypal

I don't know that it will happen to you but this happened to me today. Paypal limited my account because push daggers and butterflies conflict with their "acceptable use" policy. They demanded that i remove them from my web site. I refused and, instead, removed Paypal from my web site. They then told me that I had to sign an affidavit in order to have access to my money in the Paypal account. I refused to do that as well since I don't owe them anything and did nothing to harm them. Now my account is "permanently limited" which means closed and they are holding my money for 6 months. Not being an alarmist. Just a heads up. Take care.

"Acceptable use," my fair nanny. They sure like my money okay when I do my online business with them. One of our county libraries "removed" some books from circulation from the library. Funny that the titles were from the N.Y. Times Top Ten Best Sellers list. Go figure that one.

it's a shame that paypal isn't a bank otherwise you could call the Federal Reserve. oh wait that's exactly the reason paypal isn't a bank.

Paypal is not very knife or gun friendly. I use it very sparingly. Why pour money into a machine that does not represent our rights.

I dumped PayFail 15 years ago when they first (to my knowledge) pulled this type of crap. Royally screwed a lot of dealers and possibly forced a few out of business.

I won't do business of any type with or through them!!!!!

In my totally unrelated business I use Google checkout for my online sales. Its been exceptional so far. In fact, we removed PayPal when we switched over and have had nothing but positive remarks from customers.

It won't have a huge impact on my business. I have used Ebay for inventory clearance and that won't be possible anymore so I'll just use the specials page for that purpose. I'm not really even complaining, just letting the dealers know so they can be prepared for it if it happens to them.

Doing a little research it looks like they just take issue with automatic and butterfly knives, batons, and throwing stars. Kind of weird for them to have that policy though.

It doesn't matter where they are located or what they like or dislike. It is disconcerting for a financial institution to tell people how to run their business. Their job is to transfer funds, not to save the world from honed edges.

Probably has to do with compliance on their end since they derive funding from the cut they take from sales, which means they're effectively a partner in every sale a retailer using their service makes. At least it could be easily read that way, which is why they choose to avoid the entanglement enitirely.

No they are no different than a credit card processor. This has nothing to do with Ebay. In fact they are a credit card processor. The only cut they took from me was 3% as a processing fee. That's twice what I pay Visa, Master card etc so they are a very expensive credit card processor. They are providing a paid service. No partnering involved at all. It is politics, not business.

there is another site in ca that looks just like ebay but they dont care that I sell switchblades and some other stuff that I have for sell. you want to use paypal that is fine.if you dont that is fine too.
paypal found out one ebay bought them that I was selling switchblade and told me I would have to stop or else. so I transfered all of my paypal money to my bank account. that I change to a brand new account so they didnt have the new account number so they could not take back any money from mne and told them what they could do with there paypal account.

You misunderstand me. I mean that that might be THEIR reasoning since they aren't an actual bank. I think they're trying to avoid effed-up potential liability issues.

How can PayPal legally prevent K.O. from getting his money for 6 months ? This troubles me more than their silly-ass policy regarding certain types of knives.

I think it's pretty simple. The account doesn't have enough money in it to be worth suing them over. It had just the weekend Paypal receipts and Paypal is only about 2 or 3% of sales. It is not the first time I've been nailed in this manner. It's bad for customers who want to use Paypal to pay their orders but it doesn't affect much really.

Yeah, your thought is probably right. they honestly don't care about anything but complying with California state law. Over the years, they've tried to keep most of the cutlery/weapons related departments open, but once they feel that it does'nt conform to California law, it's gone.

I don't have a major problem with it because it's still a private business(Pay pal), but they should release his money immediately upon dissolvement of agreement. None of this "6 months" non-sense.

Time to open up a Google Checkout Account. Anyone tried using it to buy/sell a knife on the Exchange here? I know it would work for a store, but many members might be interested in it here. The only potential problem is that Google is also located in California, might have to abide by the same legalities (to an extent).
