A heads up for dealers accepting Paypal

I honestly think it will be similar to Paypal in that regard -

"Weapons Firearms, ammunition, and other items including but not limited to firearms, disguised, undetectable or switchblade knives, martial arts weapons, silencers, ammunition, ammunition magazines, BB guns, and tear gas" .

Excerpted from their user agreement. I also remember them being somewhat dodgy on the butterfly issue.

Seems more like they want to earn money without any hassles more than old fashioned politics to me. That is my opinion as to why they don't allow firearms transactions, why put yourself in a compromising position when you can just sit back and make money on everything else?

^Bingo. It's a case of wanting to steer well clear of any crazy stupid legal stuff.

I disagree completely. If that were the case, visa, master card, amex and discover would do the same thing. You can certainly buy a gun with a Visa card. Banks would have to specify what you can and can't buy by writing a check. Gun shops take checks.

They have wrapped up their bias in legal language. A company like Paypal is not in the business of selling products and isn't responsible for anything but their service. California just seems to have a different culture than the other 49 states. Sometimes I wish it would secede from the Union. It is the only state outside of mine that causes me headaches. But I won't get into their demands that I collect sales tax for them. I'll leave that for another time.

This is the exact reason why we dropped Paypal a few years back. We were able to get our funds by temporarily removing the items in question from our site, then dropping Paypal after the transfer to our bank account.

Dropping Paypal didn't affect our business much, as most folks will simply pay with their credit card instead.

Paypal limited my account because push daggers and butterflies conflict with their "acceptable use" policy. They demanded that i remove them from my web site.

We went through this several years ago. The most frustrating part is that it wasn't enough to simply disallow the Paypal purchase of products that violated their "acceptable use" policy. Paypal wanted these products off our website. So (as others have done) we took Paypal off. It did not financially impact us.

And along these same lines (and this is addressed to dealers) at some point if you sell anything like butterfly knives, push daggers, throwing stars, automatic knives, etc you may have a run in with Google. Adwords and Google Base, specifically (if you use these services). And, like Paypal, Google will shut down your Adwords account and your Google Base feed if you even offer these offending items for sale on your website. Sorting this out with them can take months (but at least you can sort of work with Google). Be careful with your advertising.

If removing Paypal from the site were all it took, there wouldn't be a problem at all. The problem for me is that they closed my Paypal account after I removed it from the site. In effect, they punished me for not removing the offending items. They weren't as worried about getting Paypal off the site as they were about getting things removed from my site. Very bizarre business behavior.

They probably closed your account and freeze money because of possible claim which can be open. I think max. timeframe for such claim ( chargeback ) is 180 days from transaction date.

Living in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia I have to agree. It is Paypals politics not a legal requirement they are trying to conform with. I can run down to the local gunstore and use my MC, Amex, Visa or Discovery to buy a new gun or Kalifornia approved non lead ammo. Like any zealot they are trying to tell you what to think, methinks.
