This little guy has bumped my reg. BG42 Sebbies, and ZDP Caly out for a week straight. Sal slammed this thing to the gills in quality. There are a lot of tiny details that push this knife into greatness. A TON! In design, and machining.

First off it is a Sal design, and a mix of a Native and a Caly 3. Perfection! Feels great in the hand, top notch Carbon Fiber scales, S30V... Very light weight, full flat grind. Awesome blade shape that reminds me of a Mini Manix (another great one.)

On to the pix, they can tell you more than I can.

Nice wire clip
IMG_4980.jpg

Blade is dead centered
IMG_4977.jpg

Nice lock up
IMG_5001.jpg

Machined spacers for the blade to sit in when closed. (very nice!)
IMG_4989.jpg

Pivot screws are nice and flush with the scales. Perfect!
IMG_5006.jpg

Love the way they cut the scale out, so your thumb can get a good grip.
IMG_5008.jpg

Another small detail, when the knife is closed the choil fits the top part of the hand perfectly flush. (very good design fore thought here)

and, when its open it hit the blade stop perfect. (this took a few trys in design I bet)

Please wait till I'm done to post.... Thx

The blade stop beefy, for a little knife.

Lets get to the guts of this guy.

Here is why them spacers are a nice touch.
IMG_5026.jpg

Also, look at how one side has a flat spot, it also has that same flat spot on the liners. Nothing is moving around on this knife, not even in the long run.
IMG_5027.jpg

The tang is rounded off, not just cut straight off. Another very nice touch.
IMG_5030.jpg

Nice washers, that are going for the long run. That is the stop pin on the top.
IMG_5036.jpg

Pivot is very nice also!

And with a few other great EDCs in it edge length. (Small Sebbie, and a SNG)

A small Sebbie has a little more belly, and a tad longer edge.

Great photos So-Lo! The Sage looks like a real winner... The aesthetics don't quite sit well with me, I prefer the look of the Caly3 but I might have to pick one of these up anyway.

Bonus stuffs :D

This is how I open most of my Spydies, pull it past the dedent... and flick my hand a little.

And with the 306 UF stone (click me for my review) Diss, sucka will get sharp!

Good job Spyderco  I can not wait for the other lock versions. :D

Post away. :D

Argh, why couldn't it have had a backspacer?? Out of the house, I carry my knives loose in the pocket, same pocket I carry my keys. I'm afraid that the keys will find their way into the space and mess with my edge :(

I've warmed up to liner locks a bit more, so the backspacer is the only thing stopping me!

As I've mentioned before, I will most definitely be collecting all the new Sage's as they come out. Its a great knife!

great review So-lo !!!
I love my Sage, it kicked the T-Mag out of my pockets and trust me, that wasn't easy... :D
i'd like to sneak in a photo on my own (sage, display & photographer;)) hoping that Sal will find a way to help us Sage freaks fill up our display towers in less than 5 years !! (at the rate of one version per year that is :grumpy::grumpy:)

Great review, and thanks for the amazing amount of high quality pictures:thumbup:

Yet another knife on my wishlist:o

So-Lo,

Awesome pictures man. Thanks for doing that. I love seeing the inside of a good knife. That's a nice solid stop pin and very close tolerances. Especially how close the blade comes to those spacers when closed.

I am really NOT a liner lock fan but I will really consider this knife. I just wish there were not so many darn knives that I wanted. :)

Btw,
How would you rate this knife against the Tenacious in terms of quality/Fit and Finish, since I have neither, but want both:D

The Tenacious is good for its price-point, but the Sage blows it away in every catagory except edge length.

Good job Spyderco  I can not wait for the other lock versions. :D

Post away. :D

Will there be versions with other lock mechanisms?

Don't like liner locks, but release a Sage with the classic ball bearing lock and I 'll get one right away.
