A inside out review of the ZT 300 (TONS of pics)

One of the best reviews I've read about a knife. Excellent work, including pictures and in-depth, no-bias explanations. Thank you!

Nice review So-Lo! Really nice pictures. It is interesting to see the inner workings of knives. Thanks!

Nice job, I just picked up a ZT0300 the other day and am extremely pleased with it. I like So-Lo cant find hardly anything I dont love about it.

Great review - the pics are what really tell the tale. So interesting how the speed safe is actually just one single piece of steel set up very precisely.

I love my Skirmish, but the length seems to make the large recurve work ok. This knive looks a lot shorter... so the blade seems really "chubby." Could just be an artifact of the the photography.

How is the "digi" put on to the g10 scale? I can see it doesn't go all the way through to the back of the scale. Is it just painted?

So-Lo, that was a very good review! You should put a link to this thread in the Kershaw sub!

Well done!

Looks painted on.

Thanks for all the kind words! It was fun to do, now I need to get going on a few more.

Do you want more hard use reviews? Or Spyderco reviews, this vs that stuff? What would you like to see? What ever it will be, there will be TONS of pics!

:D

That sounds great! Keep those pics coming... I'd love to see some "this VS that" material!

Do you have the Kershaw Tyrade ( http://www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=10300&HS=1 ) to compare against the ZT 0300/0200?

Some Benchmade and Spydies would be sweet too, especially the high-end models like the Rukus, Skirmish, Kulgera and the classic spydies: Military, Manix, Police, Chinook etc. No gentleman knives and no tiny little pussified EDC blades. Only really heavy-duty stuff.

Thanks in advance.

Since you're in the mood for disassembling things, maybe you'd like to take an Axis lock apart and tell us how it goes. I've always wondered what it would be like to take it apart.

Strider folders dont have a metalic liner on the G10 side? How does that work? G10 alone is strong enough and wont flex? And its also my understanding that the backspacer on a strider cant be separated from the G10 slab. Is that correct too? Does anyone have a dissected picture of a strider folder to compare to this ZT? Even the xm-18 seem to have metal liners on both sides. Oh ya one more thing, why does the pivot on the ZT have to be facing like that when putting her back together?
