A knife for my boyfriend

My son is a knife fan, runs a glass tempering factory at work, and the bugout is his favorite blade to carry. He has many other folding knives yet prefers the bugout[/QUOTE]

tho my recomendation is this Boker with a stag handle.
Boker 112004ST Stag Lock Blade Hunter Pocket Knife with 7-1/4 in. Straight Edge Blade

stag will wear and age over the years as he uses it, and it will always remind him of your thoughtful gift. My wife gave me a Puma gamenwarden when we were dating, 51 years ago, and I am still using it with fond memories
Teresa....

Go to the DLT Trading website: dlttrading.com. Search for the Benchmade Bugout. They have this knife in three colors from $127 to $144. Pick the color you think he'd like. DLT will engrave initials, etc. on the blade at no charge. DLT will ship the knife free to you (or him). DLT processes and ships their products very quickly. The Bugout is one of the most popular and best selling knives over the past two years. It's very lightweight, yet strong enough for everyday carry. It's also very non-threatening in a social type situation.....office carry, etc.

That's my best suggestion....aren't many knife folks around that aren't Benchmade Bugout fans. And good for you in thinking of something personal and useful for your boyfriend's birthday![/QUOTI would agree with this.

Hey Teresa! Based on his knife choices and your price range, I think any of these knives will serve you well:

Manix 2
Delica 4
Endura 4
Paramilitary 2
Cold Steel Recon 1 (preferably clip point or drop point)

Happy hunting. Update us which knife you pick!

another knife to consider, and an unusual one for the US, yet a really fine knife is a Laguiole, a French folder of high quality.
here are a couple of examples. I also have one of these and it is a very wonderful knife, handmade, elegant, excellent quality and feel.
Laguiole Hunting Knife, Bee and Spring Forged, Ebony Wood Full Handle, Olive Wood Bolster, and this can be engraved when ordered

If you decide on a Cold Steel, I suggest the American Lawman. Better feel and size for me than the Recon.

Tho rather than Cold Steel, I would recommend a Buck 110 drop point available in different handle materials and s30v steel , from their custom shop. an excellent knife with a great feel. here is an example

I second all the votes for a Manix 2. They are great knives. There are a lot of varieties. I think a regular G10 one with the S30V blade would be nice, but with your budget you could also consider a Manix 2 with the S110V blade and dark blue G10 handles.

It's a bit over your budget, but I would also suggest a Spyderco Shaman. They are about $202, but you could order from somewhere that has a discount code. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share those on here. They're very sturdy and well built knives. I think it's the contours in the handles, but they feel a little more "premium" to me.

I second the votes for getting the knife personalized subtly, too. I was gifted one years and years ago that had my name on it and would never dream of letting it go.

Didnt go through all the responses and I may be late but when my wife is looking for a gift for me I usually give her a bunch of options.
Maybe ask him to show you a few knives he likes or what he likes about them and take notes.. buy one he wants.

This is an opportunity that goes beyond a single gift. Your boyfriend is getting interested in knives. You've taken the interest to explore options here. This is something you could explore together and it may enrich your relationship.

For instance, do you carry a knife? As you've been looking at gift ideas for him, have you seen anything that you thought was cool? Whether ideas for you or your own gift ideas for him, you could always ask his opinion on a particular model. You could watch a few YouTube reviews together or do some window shopping together on BladeHQ. If he expresses interest in something, your gift could be surprising him with it a week later. Either way, you'll have had the gift of doing something fun together.

I want an S35VN Lawman myself. I need to complete the Cold Steel trifecta of the Lawman, AK-47, and the Recon 1, lmao.

I want to get my boyfriend.... a couple knives .I’m pretty new to this whole thing and i wanna get him something that he’ll like a lot.
if you're still actively searching
cnsider throwning in a subscription.
nothing like self-education on the
subject matter.
perhaps he might even find it
beneficial to his interest in the long run.
knowledge is the proverbial rod :-)

Something different from his current selection of knives would make your gift stand out. Maybe a nice traditional pocket knife for SGTM.

First let me say I think it’s great of you to think of this a gift for him, secondly even better that you thought enough to realize it would be a good idea to come to the forum for advice. He should be going on an engagement ring forum after this, lol!
Now on to the knife, it appears that he’s got thumb opener knives so far so perhaps a flipper? I highly recommend the Spyderco smock. It also allows for thumb or finger flick opening.
Another great option mentioned already is a nice traditional knife. GEC makes some of the best. And Victorinox Swiss Army knives make for a great gift as well. They are inexpensive so you could potentially get two knives!

Thinking of that, if she got him Chaos Tanto it'd 100% be a gift he'd never forget. And I doubt there's a guy who's into knives and won't have a huge smile when he opens the box and sees that :D
He would be the manliest man in his group of friends. It’ll be loads of fun in “my knife is bigger than yours” pissing contests lmao.

“Oh you have a Swiss Army knife? How cute.”

My apologies, I’ll haul my cringy ass out of here, lads.

He would most likley chop down some stuff with it and stuff like that, he'd have fun with it. You just can't do some things with a folder :D

And when you get your hands on something like that, you just want to see what it can do. I was literally seeking excuses to use my Warcraft Tanto, and it's hands down best performing knife I so far experienced :D
