A knife with no known maker.

Welcome to Bladeforums CassiusClay.

First, I want to compliment you on your ability to take a joke. The members here have a sense of humor and like to joke around, but it's not mean-spirited. A lot of people would have taken the jokes the wrong way and left in a huff. Props to you for having a thicker skin.

As far as the knife, I've taken the liberty to post a picture of the knife you referenced in the previous post (first pic below).

Based on the second pic I've posted (the result of a Google search), the knife you referenced closely resembles a "Whitetail Cutlery" knife. I don't know the model.

It appears that the knife you referenced has a logo and some writing stamped on the tang, but it's not clear in the photo. Of course there is always the possibility that the knife you referenced is a copy of the Whitetail Cutlery knife, or vice versa.

I found a similar Whitetail Cutlery model. It appears Whitetail Cutlery knives are made in Pakistan. At least this one is (it says "Pakistan" in the middle of the blade, second pic).

But again, it's possible that yours could be an original version, and the Whitetail a copy. However, if the only marking on your knife is "surgical steel", there will likely be no way to ever tell for sure who made it or where it was made.

Thank you man I really appreciate the information! You found more in one day then I have in multiple day's of looking over the years. I wish I could read the logo on the tang in the picture you posted. I assume that the PO of mine sanded the lasering on the blade off.
I don't mind the Humor one bit, my mom hits harder then the comments around here. I'm actually glad this is such an active community I may have to stick around. Again, Thank you!

That's an ugly knife. I would tactically rehome it.
Glad to hear you approve of it. I can't, It's been nothing but reliable and I don't have to worry about someone else taking it from me. As off putting as it is, it really is a sturdy blade. Almost to thick, but the thing is a hard working knife.

Never quite finished the sheath. I made it in my younger teens IIRC.
Nice sheath, beaver tail isn't easy to work with. In the 90s Smoky Mountain Knife Works sold a lot of imported similar knives under the "Old Smoky" brand. Scales and grips were chonky burnt bone and bolsters were substantial. The knives were likely sold elsewhere too. That's my guess. The steel on the one I had was cheap, 440A or 420J2, not very good. Considering you did a really good job on the sheath its worth a lot mote than the knife in my opinion.

Thanks. The sheath is slightly bulky, and it still needs a piece to hold the handle to the belt loop. Other then that it works great and has held up really well. I found the tail on the road and tanned/dyed it myself so it was a fun simple project for a few days.

Gents, you will please limit your responses to on-topic posts. Further nonsense will result in further warnings. And will be with points.
