When in Little Rock you should see the Hostric Arkansas Museum. There is a huge display of historic knives, including work by James Black and MS Lin Rhea works there, you may get a chance to see him work in the period correct forge. It's a knife nuts must in the area.

If you're going to Little Rock you will be in the heartland of American bladesmiths. Tons of great makers in Arkansas. Don't forget to check out the display of antique bowie knives at the museum - talk to Lin Rhea - I'm sur he'd be hapy to give you a guided tour with a little notice.

So far Tad and I have chatted and I'm gonna pop in and see him for defs :). It's looking good. This is great information and I'm adding to my map everyday :).

Keep the suggestions rolling in, I really appreciate the help. So much. So if you know anything interesting, anyone interesting that would be brilliant :). I will have to give Joe Paranee a shout too he was a great help with my Bill contact and his knife collection is a real envy of mine :D.
How do I get to go to the Knifemakers Collectors guild show, do I need to be a member?

I'm 3 hours from Shreveport, if thats not too far out of the way you're welcome to stop by for a shop visit, eat some authentic Cajun food, & burn up some ammo in the back yard. All my contact info. is listed below if you decide to stop by just email or call. Sounds like a cool trip, I hope you guys have a blast.

If you're already going to be passing through Texarkana, you guys are more than welcome to swing by our place for a bit. Got plenty of pretty awesome guns to shoot and cool knives to check out...not many guitars though:(

There are also quite a few awesome Mastersmiths living in the area. I'm sure one of them would probably be more than happy to give a bit of a shop tour if we let them know ahead of time. Since you'll basically be driving right through town, feel free to get in touch!

Pootsy reach out I live near Martin Guitar and I might know where somee guns and knives are :)

That's great Joe :D

I've been flat out at work and its hard getting a chance to reply to this.

My big question at the moment for people is where can you hire a car at a decent price, it's working out at $1700 for something decent. Anyone know of anywhere that won't really dig into me or am I gonna have to wait a year?!!!

Haha. That's the price for a Ford escape but I'd take anything reasonably decent - any good websites or companies I could phone?

I'm not that up on it. Do you have an Amex card ?

They can be helpful in renting cars

No Amex over here - you can't really use it anywhere so they don't really have any benefit.
I've a few quotes and going to ring some tomorrow and see how it goes.

Erin Go Braugh! I'll trade places with you. My gram was from northern Ireland and my mom always wanted to visit but never got the chance.. I love the country, the people and Guinness. What more do you need. As for the USA, you will have a great time anywhere except central Pennsylvania. STAY AWAY! It's boring. I've seen people die here just for lack of something better to do.:yawn::yawn: Seriously, I hope you have a great time and take home many fond memories. Rob

Getting sorted with a car atm it's expensive, twice as much as the flights but nothing I can do about it :D!!

It is gonna be an immense trip just sorting out the driving and where I'm gonna stop and stay and hopefully gonna book it all this week and then keep saving. Need to buy a load of boots and have to hold myself back from buying a guitar :P or too many knives :P

If you want to swing by when you're in San Antonio, my shop is a half hour drive south from downtown, out in the country amidst the rattlesnakes and coyotes. You can still see the buildings of downtown off in the distance.

The Alamo is a great place to visit. Amongst everything else, the first time I walked in I saw a Searles Bowie on display. I've never been a fan of the Searles style, but upon seeing it and seeing the skill of its making, the hair litterally stood up on my arm and I got goosebumps. It was awesome. :)

I'm jealous. Road trip!! My advice. Buy a Europe/USA GPS before the trip and load USA before Europe. They rarely have room for all of both and you can always reprogram it later. You have a million great suggestions here, one more, keep all these suggestions in your quiver but don't set a whole lot of them in stone. Keep it loose. Enjoy.

Yea. That's mostly why I'm taking three weeks and not rushing around in 2. I think 3 gives me enough time but not too much that I'd get lazy :P. The only date I'm setting is the knife collectors guild show. I wanted to get to one knife show and thankfully one is on when I'm there :D.
Yea the Alamo is the first big stop. Really looking forward to seeing and meeting people in real life.
This is a big question but where would be a good like person run company/shop for boots. I'd rather buy them from a local business and support them then something like shephers. Any good places for getting them fitted etc? :)

Justin, Texas (not named for Justin boots) has a great outlet boot store. Worth a stop.

Your trip is shaping up! Sounds like it will be a great adventure.
