a little becker love

Bladite,

Thanks for the great pictures of a great collection! I have a Cincinnati Machax and I love it, despite negative reviews I've read. I thought you may be interested in the following. It is an evaluation of the Machax by American Survival Guide magazine (now defunct). I don't have a scanner so I can't scan the page, but I typed it out and converted it to a Jpeg - hope it works, if not, and you want the Word document, email me and I'll send it to you.

Hi guys! I'm a noob here. I have been a fan of the BK&T pieces for a while. . I have a Camillus Companion and a Camillus TacTool.

I have a number of different knives, and like to take 2-3 blades whenever I go camping, etc. However, the TacTool goes on every trip. Aside from my EDC Leatherman, the TacTool is probably my most tool. It isn't really a jack-of-all-trades, but it can be a halfway decent chopper, and it'll split kindling all day long. I also have found uses for the prybar aspect of the knife, although I never used it to bust open any doors. I have reprofiled (if that's the correct term) the main edge to add a little more versatility to the BK3, but I left the corner edge and tip edge at the factory angles.

Also, after you (actually others) get by the black finish of the TacTool, it is pretty non-threatening in it's appearance. This is nice when one wants to work with a tool in a more public outdoors situation.

I am currently searching for the almighty BK5, and am always considering picking up a BK7, BK10, and BK11. So many knives, so little $$...

I love my BK10 man. I got the mikarta slabs, and made a new sheath for it. Good stuff. Feels stout in the hand. You gotta get those mikarta slabs. They're the bomb.

i dont want to deal with camillus right now -otherwise i would order a set

well i called they have some in stock -so call me a idiot -i bought a set

I agree the TacTool is a really great outdoor product. I was iffy about owning a knife without a pointed tip, silly me, turns out it is so much more useful without it. Recently found a brand new in the box BK91, and I find the desert tan finish to be more attractive than the (tactical) black. However, the knife is way too large for me, so I gave it to a male friend.
Pam

The desert tan is nice. I wish they made the BK1, BK2, and BK3 in the tan, as well.

Yippee! FINALLY, I pulled the trigger and have a BK1 Brute on the way!

howdy,

on receipt of a new patrol machete, and the last generation of machax, i felt that the family should have a group shot... so... from the old to the new.

sorry for the lack of rotation, thunderstorm coming, and i'm in a hurry to get this done so i can be elsewhere. i might clean'er up later ;)

left to right:
o Reinhardt BK&T "Kukri", Effingham, Illinois, USA - leather sheath
o Patrol Machete, current camillus
o Brute - Effingham, Illinois, USA - leather sheath
o Machax, nickel-phosphate finish, Cincinnati - leather sheath
o Machax, blued?, Cincinnati - combat sheath
o Machax, no marks no nothing, smooth gray epoxy finish
o Machax, last gen camillus
o Campanion, current camillus
o Magnum Camp, last gen camillus
o Combat Bowie, current camillus
o Combat Utility 7, current camillus
o Becker Necker, current camillus

here's two more, effectively closer:

i have to say, the profile/edge grinds on the two cincinnati machax's is incredible, they're super super smooth, like razors, there's no sudden bump or crude convex like the epoxy coated one, which is worse than the last generation one, which features an edge more like the patrol machete. however, it does look like someone put a more convex chopping edge on the blued one, not unlike the current/last machax, somewhat a hybrid. the nickel-phosphate machax and reinhardt are more close in that regard.

the old style brute and the campanion also have similar profiles, and edges, thin and fairly sharp... compare to the CU7 which is almost like the patrol machete (sharp and tough), and the combat bowie which is thinner and very much like the magnum camp - thinner, sharp, but not as thin as the campanion. the necker came to me really sharp, and has a stout edge, this thing is a sleeper, for $30? a beck knife this robust? yow.

the style in sheaths is interesting too - i put those in the frame to get an impression of the changes too. they went from nice stitched leather in the olden days, to a funky combat sheath which i like a lot (lower right) (is that original to becker?) to this kydex stuff which i don't so much like. the patrol machete is in a sort of soft rubberized lined thing, doesn't have a kydex stiffener or inner protection - i should fix that if i carry it.

Great pics!

they convinced me - I'm getting a BK9!

(already have the Necker)

Bladlite - Thanks again for the pics and info!

My BK9 got here yesterday. :)

Fit, finish, and edge are superb.

It is a huge m*****f***er that push-cuts paper! :D
Seriously impressive.

Hmmm, I think I've got a need for a BK7 now for the times when the 9 is just a touch too big...

my micarta handle slabs arrived today-
are they suppised to be dull?
other than that they look sweet-
11$(actual cost on envelope1.11) shipping to send less than 12 miles-thats what i was quoted-offered to pick them up -no go-

oh well-at least i got them while you still can-and even when you add the handle cost with the knife cost-its still a dam fine piece for the price

Hard to say if your post did it or not, but I ordered a CU7 last week and am picking it up at the post office today. Also looking for a Tac Tool. The current conditions at Camillus are a big factor.

Doc

just looked up my bank balance to see what camillus charged for my micarta slabs-

i didnt think it helped when i said the shipping was very steep for such a close delivery-
they charged me $25 total shipped-add in $50 shipped for the bk10-and it might be the best 75$ piece around

well im still a camillus fan

Got my BK1 just yesterday! Now for the Micarta's everyone is raving about.

When it stops being 100°+ degrees, going to do some chopping/slashing tests, just for fun. :)

I split small oak peices for my Grill/Smoker, that chore should be pretty easy with the BK1.

Thread inspired me, for sure.

Bought a BK9, that came in, it's amazing.

Yesterday bought a BK7!

Now I've got to look into these Micarta handle slabs I keep reading about, although I think the handle as it is is pretty decent. Fit and finish on the
BK9 are excellent, BTW. - I'd asked the dealer to do a look-see before shipping.

So thanks for the pix, the thread, and I'll be sending you a bill...;)

Alright Bladite here are the two I bought because of you, sir. Thank you, btw, I'm hooked for sure. I already received the mikarta scales for my future Brute acquisition.
