Well I wasnt going to post this originally as I thought Id probably get bashed, but it has been bothering me everytime I use my sebenza so I thought Id share. I dont mean to bash anyone, and still think the seb is a great knife, I was just really dissapointed with how things worked out for me.

Anyways, last month or so ago I posted about my blade not being centered and I tried to solve it myself and could not. So with recommendation from here I decided to send it in. Anyways, I get a call and am told that the knife was sharpened and cleaned up. It was rebead blasted and the lockbar reheat treated. I was also told it wasnt quite recented perfectly but was fixed quite a bit. So I accept this and they send me the knife back.

About a week later it arrives from UPS. I am a little stunned because I get a 50 dollar brokerage fee. I am pissed about this, but shrug it off bcause I at least get my seb back. So I look her over and it is uncentered as much as before. Now, you may think I am anal or what not, but I am more pissed because I basically sent my knife off for nothing except spending 60 bucks on shipping.

Everytime I use my seb now, I just get annoyed about the whole experience to the point I almost dont enjoy the knife. I really loved my seb, and I can live with it being uncentered but the bad memory has got me to the point where I am considering just selling it. Really too bad. I dont blame CR all that much, but I would have expected them to be a little more educated in shipping costs.

Sorry for my gripe guys, but I wanted to share my feelings as it has had me bummed for the last little while :(. I wish I just didnt send it in at all.

They could be more educated in shipping costs, but you know there are Canadians who are shocked the first time they get hit with UPS fees. Like so many issues on BF -- communications. You have to clarify everything the other party might not know.

Very true, but it doesnt change the fact that it happened. I dont blame them, it still sucks to lose 50 bucks for something stupid :P

I would call them and let them know that you just can't be satisfied with your blade being off center, especially since being hit with that ridiculous shipping fee.

I completely understand. I've been bothered by things like this on lesser knives, so I would go insane if I had to stare at a flaw in my Sebenza all day. That's one of the main reasons I'm so in love with the knife: I simply can't find a single flaw in it. That's really important to me, and it's why I'm a CRK customer.

I was thinking about doing that, Ill think about it...

never ever ever ever use UPS, FEDEX, or DHL for USA to CAnada shipping. They will rape you with fees on top of the shipping costs.

DEMAND from anyone that you deal with in the US to use USPS. USPS integrates seamlessly with Canada Post, and other than GSt/pst/duties (if applicable) they will not charge a $40 - 1000+ admin "fee"

If you were this upset over a < $100 knife it would be picky, but for Sebenza prices I definitely empathize with you. I think at that price point you are paying for near perfect fit and function. Sorry to hear your bad experience.

I was also told it wasnt quite re-centered perfectly but was fixed quite a bit.

Well, in my opinion, if the off center blade was the result of a manufacturing defect, it should have been "taken out of circulation" and replaced with a new knife. Period. It it was the result of user error/abuse (not saying it was), then I would be okay with them fixing it the best they could.

It was just natural flaw, at least thats what I was told. I was not charged for any of the work they did do. Apparently they worked to fix the centering problem but I dont see any difference to what it was like when I sent it in.

Hey, Maybe when the Izula folder comes out you will be happy with replacing whats in your pocket...:D

I hate to hear about your Seb. A quality piece such as that, I would talk to them about your displeasure.

+1:thumbup:. Have you given them a call or sent them an email after you received it? It would be a proper gesture on your part to let them know you're not satisfied with the service they offered you. They can then figure out how they want to go about making you a happy customer. I think that blade centering should be handled under the warranty so if you think it still has an issue, you should contact them again.

As a fellow Canuck who's owned not one but three Sebs with off-centered blades, I feel your pain. Being that it wasn't a new purchase, do you know what the fees entail? You shouldn't be hit with duties on a repaired knife, from what I understand. Perhaps CRK will offer to cover some of your shipping costs?

I'd be bummed too,it's an expensive knife! You should'nt have to be satisfied with second rate quality.

If a blade is a bit off on a 100.00 knife I could live with it but not on a CRK knife. They have a rep and a price for perfection so I would not except any less.
I would give them a call about it and see what they can do.

How off center is it and why would they re-heat treat the lockbar? If it was wearing would they not replace it? How does heat treating it affect the blade position?

I'm really sorry to hear of your misfortune. It sure does bug me when a brand new knife in the first place, is clearly defective and it bugs me even more when they do not address the concerns of the customer. As a fellow Canadian which has had to deal with numerous warranty issues involving several cutlery companies,I have never had to pay any type of fees of any kind on a knife returned under warranty.

Do you have any pictures.
