A little dissapointed....

That sounds EXACTLY like what Strider says in defense of scratches and off-centered blades.
Thought that excuse was one of the reasons many preferred CRK(because they DIDN'T use that excuse...)

Exactly! CRK has a niche in this market and their competitor is Strider. When anyone looks at which knife to buy their decision making is based on whether they prefer Strider asthetics over the perfect CRK folder. That is their stong selling point.

that's what i was thinking too. i believe it's mentioned in the strider FAQ, which btw, is mostly excuses for their poor-for-the-price fit-and-finish. with strider though it seems that the knives come off-center much more often, and WAY more off-center.

i just had to send my CRK in for something, and apparently it got dinged by one of the workers, so they reblasted the entire handle (free of charge, of course). with strider, the knife comes dinged already and sometimes they won't even return emails. i would buy another CRK in a heart beat. you get more than just a top quality knife when you buy a CRK.

Well I have a knife that came messed up, sitting at Stider well over a month and after a lot of emails and phonecalls I got one response saying they have my knife and I have to pay $15 for return shipping when it's done which is fine I'll pay it but once I tried emailing back to find out the ETA of the knife and what payment they accept they stopped responding and I gave up. Strider's CS is the worst I've ever experienced of any knife company. They don't answer the phone they don't return emails or voice messages. As oppsed to CRK who usually respond the same day if they are in the office and turn around tine has never been more than a week.

that's terrible. for a $400 knife, you shouldn't have to send it in in the first place, and you definitely shouldn't be ignored. have you tried posting on the USN strider forum? you might have better luck getting a hold of them there. my understanding is that it's only a part time job for their CS guy, which is no excuse IMO.

That is terrible and no excuse at all. when you sell $400 knives, get a decent guy or girl on customer service and have them run like hell for you when something's wrong...

actually I heard a lot of their staff are part-time. I really love the whole design and have always wanted one, but until they get their QC, I probably would only buy a used one from a reputable person(that way I know it locks up decently, at least). right now though, after all of the stories I've heard (I've heard plenty of good stories too, like some guy cracked his blade into two pieces, and htey're still honoring the warranty) I probably wouldn't give them any business.

I would not even consider buying a Strider knife after reading this thread

I am neither a CRK fanboy or hater i'm neutral and at this point am giving both CRK and the original poster the benefit of the doubt.
I would consider buying A CRK someday, however i would really like to hear some feedback from CRK on this thread.Has CRK replied to the original poster of this thread? Seems to me there should have been news by now.

I have had 3 striders total and 10 sebenza's. Of the 3 striders I have had, 2 had off-center blades. Both were new from strider. Of the 10 sebbies, ALL were centered and perfect with no defects. Striders are known for their defects ( scratches and off-center blades ) and since they keep making them that way, that should tell you alot. The SMF I have was pre-owned and in excellent condition and thats the only one I have kept. I sold the others 2. The SMF will be my last strider as I feel they are grossly overpriced for what you get. Not every strider fan will agree with me, but since I have owned them, I feel I can speak freely about them since I have had first hand experience with them. I really like my SMF and its a keeper..........As far as the sebenza goes, I will continue to buy more as funds permit. In all the sebbies I have had, I only had a problem with one of them and I got it pre-owned. It was supposed to be NIB, but when I got it, the blade was off centered and it was scuffed up. I took it apart and cleaned it up and put it back together. The reason it was off-center is because the previous owner did not put it together correctly and had the bronze washer riding up on the pivot screw. The problem was easily fixed by me. This was the advise given to the OP, but his problem seems to be of a different nature........All I can say is the off-centered blade problem with the OP's sebbie is very rare. Other than his, I do not know of any and if there are more out there, you dont hear about them, so it must be a small problem. While nearly everyone that has owned striders will tell you they have experienced it. If you have $400 to spend on a folding knife, go with the sebenza or umnumzaan. Your definately getting more for your money and far better customer service.

I would go to their USN forum but I always get redirected and I just give up after a while. And I agree with the money Strider charges they should have much better qc,f&f and cs service.
