Did a little dayhike today here in Northern California (Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve). I had wanted to work on building a shelter for Flix's giveaway thread, but I was on a bit of a schedule so didn't really have the time to go off-trail to play around with it. I just wanted to throw some pics up here for you guys still stuck in the cold and snow

Lots of Redwoods, but none of my pictures of them turned out very well:o. They were beautiful though.

Since it's been raining here quite a bit (thankfully) this past month, the creek was flowing nicely :).

Some life on the trail:

These ladybugs were everywhere on one section of the trail. I think they were preferentially clustered on a certain type of plant. I really don't know what they were doing, and I've never seen so many clustered together like that.

Don't know if you can see them, but they're all over the stalks of this plant in this picture:

Also saw Mountain Lion scat (correct me if I'm wrong!). This was one of the smaller ones I saw throughout the trail, but it's the only one I thought to take a picture of.

Obligatory knife porn :D

Brought my CPM154 Bravo-1 along to snap some pics of it in its brand new unmarred state :)

Original A2 was on the belt (though to be honest, the only cutting I did today was some whittling with my Mora Clipper....:o)

I just realized I had 5 blades with me today: 2 Bravo-1s, 1 Izula, 1 Mora, and 1 Vic OHT. And here I told myself I'd never bring more than two blades on any hike.... :D

It was a great day, everything was green and absolutely beautiful. Just wanted to share, for you guys that are still stuck in the cold or snow with cabin fever. Hang in there!

wow.. those are some great pics Russell... looks very similar to our neck of the woods..:)

Thanks Mike :) And yeah, all the more reason for me to get my butt down there sometime; I love this kind of scenery! You're lucky to live right in it

I really like the pictures of the creek, there is just something peacefull about a small creek in the woods.

Ahhhhhh, those pics get me excited for the change of seasons. Thanks for sharing, everything excpet that banana slug of course.:barf:

Interesting stuff. You don't tend to see ladybugs here when it's damp. I thought they were adverse to it and nailed down the hatches. I've only ever seen a concentration like that in high summer.

Beautiful pics!
:thumbup::thumbup:

Ahh green how i miss you, lol!
If/when i move to BC i will eventually have to hop across the border and gradually visit all the southwestern states.

It thawed here a little bit yesterday, i can see pavement in the driveway!
Just temporary though the white stuff won't be gone for sure til May.

The ladybug pics are kinda freaky!
Any idea what kinda plant they were attacking/eating?

Thanks for the pics bro. I just got 8 inches of snow dumped on me yesterday. I am sick of winter. Cant even snowboard in it b/c there is no hills big enough for it in this part of misery. :jerkit:

Im ready for warmer times. Especially ready to make it back to Cali in May.

So..... Which do ya prefer, the OG Bravo1, or your new SS one? The next blade purchase I make is gonna be another Bravo. Just deciding handle options. Its gonna be burlap, black or green. Im leanin twoards the Burlap micarta. That stuff is too cool.

Wow great pics man! Cool ladybug shots, I never saw that either; maybe its mating season for them.

I saw grass for the first time in a long time this week as the snow has finally melted over here. But wouldn't you guess what its doing right now:thumbdn:

I'm sick of it allready!:grumpy:

Awesome pics man! I love the ferns and sun through the woods in the first set and the mushroom/leaf. Brilliant colors on that one!

Thanks for the photos. I never get tired of seeing photos of moss-covered rocks and lush hiking trails. I'm looking forward to seeing some green again. It was starting to thaw a bit earlier this week, but then the temperature dropped from 10 C (50 F) to -15 C (5 F) over the course of an afternoon, dashing my hopes of an early Spring.

All the best,

- Mike

Rskoon,

Great pics.. I like the pics of the ladybugs... I get an infestation of ladybugs in my home everywhere year, but I guess there are worse infestations to have... rodents,in-laws,etc...
