I'm a user. I use things. Typically anything I collect gets used. Every Busse I own, from my NMFBMLE to my Ruck to my SAR SE gets used... except for one very pointy, DCBB grail knife which I won't name, so as to not confuse this as a for-sale thread.

Here is where my dilemma comes in and I can use some opinions/hand holding. No matter how cool something is, if don't use it, it eventually finds its way to the exchange. Handling/fondling/finger f*&king something really cool that NEVER gets used isn't as practical to me as something less cool that I use all the time.

Would you sell a grail knife you never use (that you swore you'd be buried with) in order to fund a really nice (Insert anything else here) Weber Grill? I don't want to, but because of my shortage of funds and other bills, saving for the grill just isn't going to do it. When I weigh the amount of grilling I do and how much I'll use it... it just seems silly to have a knife that just sits in a box...

...and then I hold the knife again :( and get all teary eyed. I should have seen this coming. Every other pretty knife I've owned, got sold to fund something more practical.

Buy a Smokey Joe or build a firepit and keep the knives

I don't do safe queens, so my input might be biased... but I say sell it or use it. But I would sell it to buy MORE KNIVES. A ring of stones and some metal grate is all you need to make the best steaks you'll ever need. I have a larger, fancier grill, but I grill several times a week, and I also didn't have to sell a knife to buy it.

I actually recently sold my only grail knife - a phenomenally gorgeous mr. mojo with snakeskin handles. I had used it, and even really liked the way it performed, but it wasn't getting carried into the woods as often as other knives, and was mostly replaced by the BWBM when I got it, so it went onto the exchange. I spent probably a solid year lusting after that knife, but I wasn't using it enough to justify the cost, so it found a new home.

I would sell the grail to fund other knives. If you are thinking about it all the time, you probably aren't enjoying it enough by just fondling it.

Don't think I would sell it to buy a grill.

I have been using a 20 hibachi for 10 years or so. Not as nice or easy to use as my dad's 2000k grill, but it cooks meat (and can heat treat steel on occasion!!!!!!!!!)

If you are doing a ton of entertaining, or grilling for a big family, you will have to buy a bigger grill, but there is a great charcoal griller/smoker large "drum" style BBQ at walmart for under 200 if I remember correctly. Buy a cheaper one, then fondle the knife while you are cooking?

D'oh! Those were the responses I was afraid of. I actually have a no-named version of what you posted, Lunde. It does the job. I have a fire pit too. Mustard, I don't do safe queens either... that's why a knife I can't see ever being practical, or functional seems like it would be a better Weber Genesis E-310.

I guess recently purchasing a house, being poor and only being able to afford essential things, has forced me to be more practical... As I spray and respray lighter fluid and wait for charcoal to be ready to cook on, and then repeat the whole process when the charcoal burns away... I think of a knife just collecting dust in a closet.

Damn! What was I thinking asking this to a bunch of knife freaks? :D I should take this question over to WeberUsers.com and see what THEY think. Maybe I'll just do nothing and see if the urge passes.

Sometimes it is difficult to justify having a bunch of money tied up in a safe queen when those funds could be used towards something more practical. I recently sold off one that took me a long time to find and I swore that I'd be giving it to my kid someday. Well, after having it sitting around on display for about a year, the novelty wore off and I let it go to fund another purchase. Haven't regretted it yet. Good luck with your decision.

Aw man... just don't say you are gonna buy a GAS grill. It's blasphemy to cook over propane!!! It adds nothing to the flavor of the meat... you may as well just toss it in a skillet. :barf:

Get a nice thick steel smoker and cook with wood. Charcoal is decent in a pinch, but there is nothing like the taste of a meal cooked over Mesquite, or the wood of your choice. Besides, you get to baton a lot which is a bonus. ;) :D

I'm not a collector... I use my knives. If you aren't going to use it, sell it and buy something you will use. If that happens to be a nice smoker... go for it.

Here is a blurry pic of mine (mas Dos XX ???)... It's about 5 or 6 years old or so and has many, many more years ahead of it. I use it 2 to 3 times a week. The initial cost is higher than a weber, but it will last much longer.

I sell everything and then end up buying it back, but I don't have safe queens either. If I had a safe queen (A satin gladius is the only thing i've ever considered), I would probably sell it in a heart beat to buy something I'd get to used.

I have two Busse knives. I still like to wear the smaller one often.

I used to take the larger one when we went camping. However, now that I am 67 and a bit ill I don't use the larger and heaver very often and it has become a Queen.

Even though I don’t use the larger Busse I consider it a work of art.:D I have it framed and hanging on the wall of my Den/TV room.

I would rather have a Busse displayed as art then any painting that cost about the same that I have ever seen. ;)

Also, (1.) one of my sons might want to use it someday.
(2.) Chinese speaking zombies still might invade someday!

I only use charcoal. :D

Good... good... this helps. :D

Grrrr!!! Now you've got me thinking smoker!

I guess the real problem is, grill aside, is this knife being the only safe queen I have, will always have to fear being sold for something more practical. I'm a user by nature. I'm not truly happy with something unless I'm bashing it into something else. (Wife excluded... well, unless you count... nevermind :D)

Well you already know what's the most practical thing to do. I recommend either use the knife(which sounds like it may just be a huge waste of money) or use the grill you can buy with the knife! Or figure out which will give you the most pleasure.
Best,
Gabriel.

Keep the knife, and use it.

Buy a cheaper grill (like Lunde says).

Win-Win!

Or, bear with me on this one...............................

Sell the queen, and buy a smoker/grill and another user or two knife wise. Then you get the benefit of having tasty grilling, and a user or two.

Do you really want to cook food on a grill made and PAINTED/COATED in China? Especially one you got rid of a Grail Busse for.:)

Not a bad option. I should add though, that it's one of 5 Busses and one of 7 Bussekin knives I own. I certainly wouldn't be without INFI if I sold it. Its just tough to justify owning a knife I never use, when I have a knife like a NMFBMLE that I beat the snot out of.

Well... I wouldn't care if Weber was made in Afghanistan. They last just about as long as any Busse knife. They're excellent grills... that I'd actually use.

...and trust me, I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just need to hear the opinions before I do something stupid (or not).
