A little smoke please....

We've always treated our children well, If they needed surgery and i had to go into debt to get it, i would do so without question. Same goes for our Pets. Any of them. Anything else is irresponsible and unconscionable.

My dogs are my children. its ok if no one understands

sign at my front door says

MY DOGS LIVE HERE

My dogs live here,
they're here to stay.
you don't like pets,
be on your way.

They share my home, my food, my space
this is their home, this is their place.

You will find dog hair on the floor,
they will alert you're at the door.
they may request a little pat,
a simple "no" will settle that.

It gripes me when I hear you say
"just how is it you live this way?
they smell, they shed, they're in the way..
"WHO ASKED YOU? is all I can say..

They love me more than anyone, to them
my voice is like the rising sun,
they merely have to hear me say
"C'mon girls, time to go and play"
then tails wag and faces grin,
they bounce and hop and make a din.
They never say "no time for you",
they're always there, to GO and DO.

and if I'm sad? They're by my side
and if I'm mad? they circle wide
and if I laugh, they laugh with me
they understand, they always see.

so once again, I say to you
come visit me, but know this too..
My dogs live here, they're here to stay.
you don't like pets, be on your way.
they share my home, my food, my space
this is their home, this is their place..------------

Your furry family member, Marbles, is in our thoughts and prayers and with our big bundle of smoke:)

sorry it took me so long to notice this thread Karda, my brother. I have been in that post-holiday igloo funk.

Love and Light,
Mark
No problemo, Mark.
The snow does the same to me, and i get a bit less than you.
Very good to see you here, bro!

Marbles is doing a bit better. He is walking better and getting a bit restless.

Marbles will be in my prayers. I myself have a dachshund she's a baby 7 months full of so much personality & sitting on my lap as i type. Brings tears to my eyes to hear of this suffering

This brings to mind the inscription on the tomb of Lord Byron's beloved pet, buried at Newstead Abbey:

Epitaph to a Dog

Near this spot
Are deposited the Remains of one
Who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
And all the Virtues of Man without his Vices.
This Praise, which would be unmeaning Flattery
If inscribed over human ashes,
Is but a just tribute to the Memory of
BOATSWAIN, a Dog,
Who was born at Newfoundland, May, 1803,
And died at Newstead Abbey, Nov. 18, 1808."

When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe
And storied urns record who rest below:
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been:
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master's own,
Who labours, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonour'd falls, unnoticed all his worth--
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth:
While Man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive Heaven.
Oh Man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power,
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye! who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on--it honours none you wish to mourn:
To mark a Friend's remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one,--and here he lies.

Newstead Abbey, October 30, 1808.

I am hoping that there is good news from the neurological people today!

i have several candles lit for people and dogs - that little corner of my little house is really bright.

Well....... The neurologist said that Marbles has a problem disc in his neck and 3 others in his back. One may be partially ruptured and leaking fluid. He is ordered to more cage rest for another 2-3 weeks and then we can try to cut the painkiller in 1/2 to see how he does.
It remains to be seen whether or not he will need surgery, they wont do surgery unless one or more of the discs actually ruptures. If it doesn't rupture, he may need some painkiller for the rest of his life and must lead a more or less sendentary lifestyle. No more fetch and no more running. He has another checkup in a couple weeks.

The only real good news is that he is eating and drinking on his own for the most part now, so that eases things up a bit. He has been feeling better because his pain meds leveled out and tries to play and run a little. We are going to have to keep a close eye on him.

UPDATE:

Marbles had his checkup on thursday.
The vet could not believe how well he is doing.
She had a heckuva time completing the exam between face washings.
They dropped one of his pain meds and marbles has about a week to go with the other one. He will need to take it easy for about 6 months, as his disc could still rupture at any time. Then she can declare him basically healed. At least i think we are thru this event for the most part.
Marbles is happy to be off cage rest and slept in his own bed last night.
He is more or less back to normal and we are having a little trouble getting him to settle down and take it easy, it will come in time though.

I wish to thank all of you for the smoke, prayers and positive thinking....I think they are a big part of his good and gentle healing. THANK YOU, MY FRIENDS

Consider your faces washed by marbles. :p :D

it was good talking with you - i could hear the difference in your voice - you sounded relaxed when talking about him - i am always hopeful for a full recovery no matter what the doctors say - hope and prayer never hurt

Good luck to your little duggie Karda.

Miss Kitty Angel was dragging her rear leg one time and I was really worried.

It took about 2 months but eventually she got better.

Still for probably 3 months before and after she was very sensitive around her tail head.

I don't know but I speculated an injury to the sciatic nerve if cats have them because it was like when I hurt my back!

Karda!
Great news mate....I wish I could meet marbles, Im off now to give my four legged girl( in my avitar ) our goodnight routine where she gets her rubs and love :-)
Have a great day Marbles and friends.

Thanks HD and Duncan!
I wish you could meet marbles too, duncan. He loves making new friends, especially if those new friends give him goodies.

First time I'm reading this Karda, since I've just recently started exploring the khukuri world. It's good to hear that Marbles is doing well. I have a 4 year old mini dachsie (Rory). She had a herniated disk when she was 2. The painkillers/muscle relaxants they gave her really did a number on her, but between that and the forced rest she's been back to 100% for quite some time now. Now if there was a cure for Dachshund stubborness...

Thanks Frank and Stig! :D
Yeah the meds really messed marbles up too, but it's the only way to ease the pain and get them to settle down and rest enough to get well.
If they werent stubborn, they wouldnt be quite the chaming dog they are, would they?
