There is a small group of identity thieves in a place called Weslaco, Texas. The name they use depends on the name of the credit card holder. They tend to like to order Cold Steel 60 series folders - usually two at a time. They are very persistent. I get orders from them every month or so and have for about a year. I've contacted the police but they don't respond at all. like almost all police departments they, are too busy to deal with identity thieves. And we wonder why it is the fastest growing crime in America?

The latest one has an email address starting with robbie.... Catching them is easy since they don't bother to provide an address that passes verification. Given the volume of orders I get from this group, I assume they are plying their trade everywhere and dealers should be aware of it. I can provide addresses if anybody needs them but the information I provided here should be enough of a heads up. Give a second thought about shipping any Cold Steel 60 series folders to Weslaco, Texas.
 
Whoa, thanks for the heads up. I've heard of that area of Texas is known for that. My parents pc was hacked and they were left with addresses that traced back to Welsaco,TX. I'll have to mention this to them as they had been investigating it.

Do they pay with stolen money? Is that what you were saying?
 
That is a lot more than identity theft. It is also fraud. If they are stealing people's credit cards, it is also theft. You would think the police would be more interested in going after people committing that type of crime.
 
Yes, Keith, actually it is credit card fraud and that is a federal felony. Perhaps it is an FBI matter. I don't know. I do know that I've reported hundreds and hundreds of frauds like this to police and only had one single department interested. I don't do it any more. It's a waste of time.
 
We've also received a few orders from these folks. They were quite easy to flag as fraud given the large amount of the order, expedited shipment request, and seperate names on the orders all going to the same address. They also were attempting to place orders for Cold Steel products with us.

I've setup our system to flag all orders from Weslaco, TX. I'd recommend other dealers do the same...
