Sounds like it would be a UNIT of a thing. Do you just chainsaw up the fallen tree to use as fire wood?

just. hah. i have a ... system.

but yes, anything down i can find before it's too far gone (not much now, so it's freshies), i take

anything blown down, yup

lots of oak. i made a few cord the last year or so, and am in the process of making another holz haussen (google that)

found this thing today: Hi-Lift-FR-485-Responder-Extrication-Rescue - google that too. daddy want :> generally wanted a farm jack for a while, but this thing is sick... stumps? tricky stuff? just add chain.

but i can post this in the clear: https://www.thrillist.com/eat/new-o...-list-from-muffalettas-to-charbroiled-oysters

I had a burger as well. Well, a left-over burger. When I grill them, I usually cook 8 at a time. Then I can have burgers 3 or 4 times before needing to cook more. And it doesn't use anymore gas than cooking 1 or 2 burgers. They're not quite as good re-warmed but pretty dang tasty anyway.

My burgers of choice are 98% lean beef with chopped up fresh red bell peppers, onions and miscellaneous spices mixed in. Veggies and condiments as desired for that burger.

I hear ya. Although the guys at the burger shop I go to make my burgers with love. Because they love me. Because I'm awesome. Yeps..

Springy, you make me smile.

98%? That's pretty lean. How do you prepare your grill to keep them from sticking?

Actually it depends on the situation...

In this case, Guyon stated that there was a walking way in, they just took the "scenic" route. In this case they could walk out, go over to the anchor location and retrieve their gear.

In other situations, you rappel down, do your business (e.g., package a patient for helicopter removal, if the patient is non-ambulatory and the terrain is such that stretcher removal is from difficult to impossible) and hike out the bottom to a pick up point and someone else left at the top retrieves the equipment.

In a really unhappy situation, you rappel down and the use "ascenders" to crawl back up the line to the start point.

Then comes CF's scenario where you can retrieve the line and keep going down.

And lastly, you leave everything (anchor and line) behind and go away.

Ah. Got it.

Holz Hausens look super cool. But this one vvv stood right out! Clever bugger! Although it's less of a Holz Haussen and more of a Holzbaum (wood tree.. hmm does that even make sense?!)

As for that rescue jack. Wow. If I had one I'd have a very hard time NOT using it on perfectly good cars..

"Here you go ma'am. I'LL help extricate you from your car!"
"Wait. What are you doing!? NOOO just use the door handle!"

Springy, you make me smile..

I'm glad brother. I only ever seem to make my wife cranky..

Got a new Bluetooth-enabled stereo in my car, now I can blast all my metal I have on my phone at full volume :D

Also, while I waited I had dinner. (I ate most of the fries before I took any photos)

I'll see your Five Guys and raise you a Hopdoddy.

Within 5 minutes of where I work, we have a Five Guys, a Hopdoddy (just opened; it's a Dallas-based shop I think, or at least, Dallas is where I usually have it), a Counter, a Habit, and an In N Out (not to mention the usual bad fast food). And they're all strategically placed next to healthier alternatives. So I decide at the office to go healthy, but when I get there, I go burger.

That looks fantastic, why's it have to be Dallas-based? :(

We just got this Five Guys only a couple years ago, first one within an hour's drive of where I live. We're lacking in the good fast-food burger joints around here, it's all sit-down or expensive; too many Red Robins, no In-n-Outs. We have Dick's, but it's all downtown and it's just not worth it to travel that far.

5 Guys is pretty great. I love that they have steak sauce that you can put on the burger, and how absurdly many fries you get, especially with the large. The cajun seasoning is a nice touch. In'N out was okay; not up to the hype, but not terrible. The one I really don't get is Whataburger. I've tried about 10 of them across the state, mostly during the move. They don't taste fresh (bland city), the buns are low quality and turn into that pasty stuff that sticks to the roof of your mouth, and did I mention that they have almost no flavor? No clue why people like them. I mean, if you're used to McDonalds or Burger King, I totally see it. But even a big chain like Wendy's does it better.

I think, to date, my favorite burger chain (and close to the best burger I've had for takeout period) is Smashburger. The rosemary is a good touch for the fries, and mmm, that truffle mushroom swiss... So much flavor...

Definitely fun to make your own though. I make mine with Gouda cheese, and wrap it with bacon. I still have some Bentons reserved for that purpose, and a little more elk and bison meat.

First, after I cook something, I let the gas burn on high for while I take the cooked food. Since I cook 30 yards from the house, this allows for 3 or 4 minutes to char whatever stuck.

The next time I start up the grill, I let it heat up for 3 or 4 minutes while I go back inside to get the burgers. When I get back out, I brass brush the old any old crap. I then spray a coating of canola oil on the rack and quickly plop the burgers on it.

I then lower the heat to a tad above LOW on both burners, shut the lid and go do something else for 6 minutes. I come back, flip the burgers and come back 5 minutes later, flip'em again, go inside, get my tray and go back. 99% of the time they are ready to go. If I'm cooking for my mother or sisters, I'll leave theirs on to get more done (dislike ANY pink) while I take the first batch inside.

There is USUALLY a small amount of sticking but not much. Every now and then 1 sticks badly, probably where I didn't spray well.

The extremely low fat content prevents the huge balls of pit fires from the grease drippings but still provides enough to get that "burnt grease smoke flavor". Has a lot less fat for eating too.

I use a hamburger press to make my patties to keep them uniform in size and thickness. That way they all cook alike. Yes, I also weigh the meat out - 5 oz. Per burger.

Well, this one just opened in LA, so they're on the move. Keep your fingers crossed.:)

We were all excited when The Five Guys opened, but out of all the options, it's clearly the worst. Not sure if it's a bad Five Guys or if we're just lucky to have some awesome options.

Regarding Whataburger, it got its reputation back when the options were McD, BK, or Whataburger. It's not in the same league as these other places.

There's a Smashburger by my apartment. I did it once. But then there's a Fatburger nearby I much prefer. Dang, I guess I'm burger rich. And that's not even counting some of the hole-in-the-wall gems my friends rave about.

I just watched Cast Away on TV. I've seen this movie maybe a dozen times before but only twice (from memory) as a Beckerhead. So many things went through my mind watching this fillum again. The most prominent being how bloody handy a Becker would've been (which Becker? Why Ethan of course!). But seriously, I can't watch this movie without looking at it like a documentary. What is the first thing I would do? Obviously, being No.400 I would have a knife on me when the plane went down (that's a given). Firstly, after I landed, finding water would be the the most prioritous obligation. Then fire then more water. More water, then shelter. Then maybe some food. Then after all that and I was as comfortable as possible, signaling.

Has anyone else thought about this before in the manner that I have? I seem to analyse these sort of scenarios more than regular people (probably like you guys). There's a thread cracking at the moment 'What's the best Becker for survival?'. On that island, in that circumstance, I reckon a single SS BK13 would truly make the difference between life and death yet the main consensus in that thread seems to lay upon 'bigger is better'. When you're in an actual survival situation, ANYTHING with a sharp edge would give you even the slightest upper hand provided you know how to use it. When the protagonist, Chuck, splits that chert (looks like chert) his survival factor multiplies umteen fold. He can open coconuts, he can sharpen sticks to make spears for food, he makes a friction setup for fire. Then he finds the Ice Skates and he makes a rudimentary axe. Umteen fold again.

It's funny, the part that plays on my mind is, what decisions go through your mind when you transition from surviving to thriving in this situation? Do you try to make it back to civilization to continue your old life? Or do you say "f$#k it, my best mate is a volleyball, let's see how this pans out". The bigger part of me agrees with the latter: I've been gone long enough to consider a leather sphere a friend, might as well stay here and perhaps marry a crab.

Why am I thinking about this so hard? Why am I watching an infomercial for 'Super Stars of Country Music Collection" at 2am? Why am I having another three fingers of Wild Turkey? Jeebers I'm hammered. My dog just farted. F that stinks. Does anyone else think that the Judd sisters are hot? You know, the 70s versions? What was I talking about again?

I can't watch Castaway now without thinking about The Last Man on Earth. Funny show.

This didn't really respond to your post the way I thought it might. I'm not firing on all cylinders today. Binged watched ALONE and manic-cleaned my apartment till 3:30am this morning.

Lol great read.

Went out last night with the wife and some friends for dinner. Was up all night on the can :thumbdn: sick day!

My go to burger places are whattaburger and sonic. Then again all we have here are the normal Mcdonald and such

Mmmm burgers. Warrior goes off again making me jealous! Five guys is so good. I too love me some burgers. Makes me want a big old greasy cheeseburger, a big Dr. Pepper, some hot, greasy, salty fries, a shot of whiskey, then a Lucky Strike unfiltered. Then I could die a happy man... Right there in the booth of an infarction lol.

I actually have a really good place a couple blocks from where I work called Burger Madness, it's arguably better than Five Guys and I need to be careful because they aren't exactly affordable when you eat there every day.

On topic, I just got my 2 and 14, since I'm at work I can't share pics, but I will say that the 14 is everything I hoped the 11 would be, and I now see (or is it feel?) the reason the 2 is so loved.

Nice knives, but with only 1 feedback and 48 posts, I don't think I'd send him $1,100.

I never said anything about the seller ;) I just want a Fisk Southern Bowie. In order for me to drop that amount of $, I'd try to contact the man himself for authenticity. My budget for sharp / pointy things would need to increase quite a bit in order to afford that :(
