A Midsummer Night's Snark

Sorry, my question wasn't clear. Having never rapelled, I'm picturing some sort of anchor and rope tied to it. You rappel down. Now how do you get your anchor and rope back when they're tied up above you?

You don't exactly tie your rope to the anchor. You run it through the anchor (which is often webbing tied to something; you can use some 550 cord to undo the anchor knot after you've retrieved the rope, assuming you've undone your figure 8.

Actually it depends on the situation...

In this case, Guyon stated that there was a walking way in, they just took the "scenic" route. In this case they could walk out, go over to the anchor location and retrieve their gear.

In other situations, you rappel down, do your business (e.g., package a patient for helicopter removal, if the patient is non-ambulatory and the terrain is such that stretcher removal is from difficult to impossible) and hike out the bottom to a pick up point and someone else left at the top retrieves the equipment.

In a really unhappy situation, you rappel down and the use "ascenders" to crawl back up the line to the start point.

Then comes CF's scenario where you can retrieve the line and keep going down.

And lastly, you leave everything (anchor and line) behind and go away.

Cool shot Guyon. Beware...

Nasty little Hobbitses..

Ugh. Ordered a used PS3 controller from the Bay, from a gaming vendor on there. It got here and I was happy with it, worked fine for a couple days, then out of the blue, it starts acting like I have one of the analog sticks pressed. Sent the place an e-mail asking for a replacement or a return, no answer so far and it's been a whole business day. If there's no reply by about 3 PM tomorrow I'll just go ahead and file a pay-pal dispute since they have a couple bad feedbacks because of lack of communication.

I know those combinations are relatively brutal up there, but that's just typical weather in central and coastal Texas (esp. coastal). Then, we get used to it over the 3 day period when we transition between our 2 seasons, not-summer to summer. Most of us down here are just the other way with respect to y'all's winters.:barf: Ice only belongs in a glass and snow on a snow cone, with syrup on top. :D

we see temps in the low 100s (105 to be exact) and humids up to 100% of course, and while i don't mind that so much, esp for average yard chores, doing what is for me, hard physical labor, there's only so much i can take per day. age, conditioning, etc. working in the a/c environments probably doesn't help so much.

we got a pretty wide temp band year round here, so we have to be extra adaptable. it's not like "oh, just wait to next week, it'll be 10 degrees cooler" ;) nope. got chores, do them.

got that tree down too. mid 90s today, humid even higher. just keep swinging...

the cold... yeah. we got that. but again, not as bad as some places.

what i really hate is the cold with extended rainy season. bleah.

gotta say, as long as i wasn't lifting things and exerting, i really enjoy Atlanta in late June there with temps in the 109s :D

the desert in the 120s with 0 humid. that's something special, esp when you throw in altitude.

humans is pesky. two people i know from "hot climates" thought i was nuts, and then remarked how that while even horses sweat, they can't take the heat like that and dogs ... dead.

wow. a whole business day. man.

perhaps a bit longer? cuz, honestly, if i'm busy, and i'm a one man shoppe? you'd wait :D

our in house customer service quotes people who spent serious money DAYS to resolve simple things.

even internally. i want access to a system? 48-96 hour round trip to process. pretty standard.

lotta guys take monday off. motorcycle shoppe around the corner? closed sunday and monday, and they have short hourts. 11-4ish (don't come in near 4). have a nice day!

I don't think it's a one man shop considering they have more items than a small business would have, and it said in the description "we'll get back to you withing 24 hours" which it's been well over now.

It sounds like I'm being incredibly impatient, and I am, but their return policy runs out in two days for me, and I don't want to get stuck with a broken controller.

Got a new Bluetooth-enabled stereo in my car, now I can blast all my metal I have on my phone at full volume :D

Also, while I waited I had dinner. (I ate most of the fries before I took any photos)

Yum, burger and fries. That's what the wife made for supper tonight. I never get tired of burgers.

your first message imho inal constitutes resetting their clock. ebay's clock may be different, or longer.

so sure, do file the next step, but don't go nuts with the slammming them. yet...

but if you need to feel safe, file a claim, and make the comment "provisional claim due to return policy expiring contingent on proper exchange or refund"...

Was wondering if anyone noticed or not, haha.

I did Dubz! Very clever!

Same. Fish and Chip shop around the corner from my joint makes a wicked 'The Lot' burger. Bloody thing stands nearly 7in high! And now I'm drooling again. Dubz, you'll be the death of my salivary glands..

Love how you call out 'Timber!' AFTER it falls!

yeah, i always do that.

the new winch is great for these blowdowns and other hangups. dragged that bad boy about 15-20 feet from the broken base (ripped it off the base actually)

12,000 lbs pulling power.

moo hah hah.

i'm actually more worried about pulling out my anchor tree(s)

Thanks man. I found that photo, cut it out, resized it, flipped it around, and darkened it a bit to go with the cave darkness. It's funny how it fit there so well. Looks like the guys in the background are looking right at poor ol Gollum, haha.

As good as takeout burgers can be, homemade burgers just have something about them that makes them taste better. I think it's love.

Fits real well bud. You use a program called GIMP for all your (super cool) renderings and such right? Might have to get it and have a crack. Sounds like fun..

Sounds like it would be a UNIT of a thing. Do you just chainsaw up the fallen tree to use as fire wood?

I hear ya. Although the guys at the burger shop I go to make my burgers with love. Because they love me. Because I'm awesome. Yeps..
