Fixies are cool.

Yeah....if you're a skinny jeans wearin' hipstah!

I definitely want to see if the two of you can fit in the same dress. You'll have to negotiate over the arm holes.

Ha! LOVE the new avatar, daiz. The new owner must be pretty happy.

So I know some people think the whole smoke and prayers thing is a bit silly BUT.

As some of you may know, I have been unemployed since late June due to some dirty deeds done dirt cheap. by my regional boss, who left me holding the bag. Well DC is a damn expensive area to live, and worse when you dont have any income.(Single income family, and that income was my income) I have finally started getting some very good prospects for a job, and me and mine could really use any good vibes, smoke and prayers, harichrishnas, whatever good stuff you can send to help make sure that the right thing happens to bring us to a good place. I gotta have income, in order to have disposable knife income right ? ...lol

Anyway, Thank you to all the people who have already been supportive and been looking out. and Thanks in advance for any and all of you who might say a quick word to whoever you choose about guiding us to the best place.

Back to your regularly scheduled Snarking.

No smoke, but I am drinking a Sam Adams Rebel pounder and wishing you the best of fortunes!

Cool SS:

You got this ST. Gonna come out the other side stronger than ever.

Prayers sent, Thorn.

In other news, some puke stole the Confederate flag sticker from dad's truck today when he and mom were in town. :grumpy:

You can see both ends! where's the pot of gold!

about 80m down. We're diving for it, but the visibility is crap!
All we found was this lousy hydrophone.

Smoke headed up, best of luck brother!

Going to pick up my table saw in about 30 minutes. Excited.

Wife splurged on a new vacuum yesterday... Even though we had one that worked... She got a fancy new one.. So I made a "joke" about how it costs more than the table saw i wanted... That she complained about when I mentioned buying it.. And how I don't have one already like she did with the vacuum...

That worked better than I thought... Not only do I get the saw guilt free... It's going on HER credit card :D

On another note... Pulled and cut fifty million vines out of a couple black cherry trees on my property yesterday... Machax helped... Planting 4 date palms on the west side of the property later today. Pulled them right out of the side of another date palm tree on my father's property a week ago and been watching them in pots to see if they would live... And they have developed some good roots now so it's time to drop them in the earth...

Fun fun.

Hang in there, ST

Speaking of planting trees, Angie got an avocado pit to sprout and take root. It took about six months to get going, but by golly it's an 18" tall plant now. I figure in about 30 years we'll have fresh guacamole :D

Takes anywhere from 8 to 20 years for an avocado to produce avocados. Time is variable based on variety and conditions. There are reports of as little as 5 years and reports of nothing after 30. A well drained site is critical as one of the biggest killers of avocados is a root fungus that can develop if the roots stay water bound. The variety also determines how long it takes for the fruit to mature. Some varieties need up to 18 months to go fro flower to fruit, others, as little as 8 months. Your local climate will affect when it flowers. Avocados are considered a sub-tropical fruit. The books all state Feb-Mar for flowering, but that is for "regular avocado growing areas". Unless you plant it in a very large pot on wheels (or have a fork lift available) and have a greenhouse to move it into for the winter, you may never produce avocados in TN. There are people in central and coastal Texas who do just that with their "exotic" (for Texas at least) fruit trees. Central and coastal Texas is just on the northern edge of the climate range for many species of fruit trees.

There is a yahoo group, Texas Rare Fruit Growers, where I have learned a whole lot about green house gardening, exotic fruits and veggies and tips/tricks to keep stuff from freezing.

She just threw the pit in a pot of topsoil on a whim, looked up some info on it, and... voila, we have an avocado plant. Our intent is to keep it in a pot and move it indoors during colder months, just because it's neat and a cool-looking plant. There's no way in heck I'm waiting 5-20 years for homemade guacamole! :D

Incidentally, homemade guac isn't at all hard to make... the only real trick to it is selecting some fruits that are ripe, and some that are little over-ripe for that soft creamy texture... I'll have Ang write down her recipe if anyone wants. Be warned, it contains no preservatives, so it will get yucky if you don't eat it all the first day or two... not like that's a big problem... ;)
