A Neat Little Trail Revolver

I use a Ruger Single Six for the trail gun purpose.
For larger animals, I tend to carry a rifle, so don't need the pistol to be a major caliber piece.

The Ruger SIngle Six is my favorite .22 handgun. My father has one that I am sure to plink with when I visit him.

My LEAST favorite .22 handgun is the Ramline Exactor. Unfortunately, that is the one I have.:barf:

usually carry cobray 45/410 derringer, but when it comes to a 22 it is a small 9 shot h&r revolover

My favorite :) A Model 43 Airweight Kit Gun.

Ron53 - beautiful S&W.

I'm looking at getting a Ruger Bearcat eventually. I love my S&W Model 17, but it's a bit big top throw in a pack. The Ruger Bearcat would also be good to teach my boys on when they are old enough.

I have a 617. Very nice, but agreed, kinda heavy. It's fit and feel are almost identical to my 629 ('cept for the boom:D).

Nice lookin S&W's.
My favorite is a S&W 3" 317. Holds 8 rds and weighs only 12 ozs.

Carried a S&W 4" stainless model 63 for years but, after getting the 317 it stayed in the safe. Eventually sold it.

JB, your Model 43 Airweight is a beauty!

CSG, some of our Texas rattlers don't like to give way at times! Also, we have water mocassins down here...have spent a lot of .22 rounds on them while fishing certain streams and tanks (that's "farm pond" for all you non-Texas types!).

I always thought my .45 Colt 625 Mountain Gun would be the ultimate woods gun - but it's nearly 2.5# weight is a problem. I guess you guys have helped me see a use for one of my .32Ms shown below. They both hit close enough from 12-20yd with my homebrew 115gr LRNFP @830 fps from .32M cases to be decent snake defenders - and the GA Arms 100gr JHP @ 1,186 fps in a speedloader for 2-legged predators, if needed. The 4" SP101 weighs just <30 oz, I believe... a speedloader or two with JHPs and a box or two of my lead should suffice. My only .22 handgun now is a Ruger MKII. What do you think about the .32M SP101? I like the SA, too - for plinking, for quick use, I like DA.

That's right, I almost worked at a fish hatchery in Corpus Christi for Texas Parks and Wildlife. Which part of Texas do you reign? I'm at TAMUK right now so when I graduate I'll go for a Game Warden. I use my Henry .22 lever action for all of my escapades.

batosai117, we have a place out in the country about 40 miles east of Austin. I hike, hunt and fish all around my area in South Central Texas when I'm home. Probably my most used .22 is my old Marlin Model 39 lever action...that's one tack-driving rifle!

Stainz, those .32 Magnums are fine little trail guns! Wish I had picked up one of the Ruger's with adjustable sights when they were available.

Nice area up there. I think you have more options of trees too, I just have mesquite and palm trees down here :grumpy:. I fish a lot in Baffin Bay or just off the beaches near Corpus when I'm home for the holidays. I use my guns when I visit my GF's family since they have some ranch property near Lake Corpus Christi. Lots of birds and rabbits so my .22 and pellet rifles stay sighted in :).

reconranger, never said I stopped to shoot every rattlesnake, just the ones that pose a threat. And not that many do...water mocassins are more of a problem down here.

I live in a subdivision - with some trees in my backyard. I've found a couple of copperheads, but nothing else.

Yeah, a true adjustable rear sight would be nice. The SP101's cheesy adjustable rear sight is windage-only. It looks like they rebored the 3" .32M SP101 leftovers' chambers a bit deeper (.125") to make the new '.327 Magnum' - an answer for a question no one posed. Still, if they get a few more .32-ish revolvers out there, it has to have a good effect for me...
