I recently contacted Fehrman to discuss a knife project. In the process, Eric Fehrman told me he was interested in offering a new knife this Summer. He wanted it to have a 5" blade and a 5" handle give or take an inch here or there. He sent me a rough sketch (and told me it is a "VERY crude little sketch") of what he was thinking. The idea is a Nessmuk design with a "Fehrman Twist." It is in the very very early design phase and will not be out next week so don't get too anxious yet. Eric will tweak out the design and better draw out the final concept. You can provide feedback here and let him know what you think. I've put my .02 cents in already with him and I'm sure many of you will echo what I've suggested.

Pictured to the left is a Nessmuk style sketch and to the right is a Fehrmanized version.

What do you suggest?

No offence to you or Ferhman but I thought "Frost" (and not the Sweden type) when I first saw it. I think the Spyderco Centofante 3 looks more Nessmukian than that knife.

Just doesn't look user friendly for bushcraft/skinning and definately would raise an eyebrow when it comes to sheeple and the PC croud.

Just my 2¢

Looks too much like a fixed Kershaw Offset, another knife whose blade shape's function eludes me.

Quite frankly, I don't see any purpose to that blade shape. What are those enormous cutouts for, except perhaps reducing performance, making batoning nigh impossible and just looking tacticool? What's wrong with a blade shape that works, and does not have random spikes, thorns, choils, cutouts and general shenanigans?

Looks a Beck and a Snody had a little one right now. Could do without the extreme angles on the spine. BG42 and a 1/4" sound really good with a skull cracker pommel for walnuts.

Good to see them offering some new stuff. they make nice knives and I like the 3V steel.

I never knew Nessmuk was a Klingon! :D

You didn't? :D

I don't care for the funky blade design. Especially the big useless curve where the handle meets the blade. I'd also get rid of the "spike" on the top. Having the spine curve up and then drop down would be neat.

Anything over 1/8" would be useless IMHO.

I have to agree that the design looks to tactical for a wilderness knife, and the tracker did come to mind, not that I don't like my tracker (I know some think it stinks, but hey, I like it) , but its been done before, and if it isn't sharp in the large cutout near the choil, then it reminds me of a Ranger that I had, I didn't like it alot either, I prefer the blade's edge close to my grip for leverage, and the spine flat...now this limits the imagination, so I will draw something up and post it ASAP. I will come right out and say, that Fehrman makes a great knife and the handle on my First Strike is great. Tough as nails as well. Gene

I think most of us in here stick to simple, some may even say boring designs that are functionaly perfect. I know I do, the knives I have now all sort of similar and I love them :D

Being that the above is a rough sketch, I'd assume it will change quite a bit. Or, They may be going toward a more tactical or fantasy look instead of a woods blade too.

I'm afraid I just don't get it, at first i thought it was a joke but I guess you are serious eh ?
I can't understand the function of the blade shape, how is it anything like a Nessmuk ?
For the record I love the knives that Fehrman makes at present but this one just resembles a Gil Hibben design !!!!

Here is waht I would think an Fehrman Nessmuck should look like. I think that the spines on these should be full, I dont really like false edges on spines. Gene

PS, feel free to use the design, just name it after me, and let me buy 001:D

I don' town any ferman designs but I've always thought they looked nice as for this one.....I don't believe it from the same 3v as the others I believe this one is to be forged from the shards of Narsil and will restore order to Middle earth.

I don't see any usefulness to the odd cutouts and false edges. That skinny tip looks vulnerable to damage if it was dropped.

I agree with everyone else. It's back to the drawing board. K.I.S.S. :p

More practicle, less fantacy.

Yeah...I don't dig the concave cut-outs on the spine :grumpy:. I like a nice thick, flat spine to baton with. I wouldn't buy a knife with all that BS on it.

OK, so nobody liked my design changes....:D well, then, I have a suggestion, what about the current lineup at Fehrman only in a spearpoint or drop point blade. Like I said, the current handles about as good as it gets, its the most comfortable knife I own, so I can't ask for it to be changed, but the current kine has a sort of soft tanto tip..works great, but a drop point is nice for bushcraft. ;)
