Just finished this order. I received an inquiry into getting a sword made as the client had been looking at getting a production sword but wanted something custom. He had a design idea in mind that included the tip bevel and the dimensions. Then his wife contacted me and asked that I make this but keep it quiet as it would be a gift for his birthday. So, having a design in mind I made this.

Specs:

DHIII's W2 with a blade length of 22 1/4" and an OAL of 32 3/4"
Wrought iron guard and spacer. I hammer finished the guard.
The copper habaki is heat coloured and I'm not sure if it's showing just right but it's a really rich colour.
The wood is white oak that I aged with a wire brush and the solution of the vinegar and steel from removing the scale on the guard
The tang extends almost to full length and the peined copper pin is through the tang.
Hemp wrapped with dragonfly menuki and sealed with epoxy.

I used very little clay on this and left the spine and most of the little upper bevel exposed to preserve some of the benefits of a through hardened blade.

With the down curve of the blade, I felt it had a Macedonian quality, something like a modern take on the falcata or kopis blade.
So when I did the guard I tried to capture some of the lines of the Macedonian helmets.

Beautiful. Looks like perfection to me! Thanks for showing it. Mike

You certainly take on some different and challenging projects, Stuart - and you mange to pull them off exceptionally well. This is going to make a heck of a present for a very lucky guy.

Savage elegance--love it. The apparent khopesh/falcata influence works well for me. Great piece, Stuart!

WOW!! Awesome Stuart! I'd say the recipient is a VERY lucky man on TWO counts! Getting that BAD Boy, and having such a wife.

Thanks alot everyone. I'm really wishing I could take this out and cut some stuff. It's well balanced and handles well one handed or two.

For me, nothing short of fantastic!

While reading the discription I did not think I would like the Oak and Hemp, but it looks very good together!

Thanks!

The POB is 3 1/2" in front of the guard. The weight?... less than a 1L jar of pickles. Does that help? :p:D

Yes it does! Around the 2lb mark which means it should be pretty fast in the hand. Great job!

That is truly a work of art. Anyone would be extremely lucky to own a piece like that.
