A "New" Vantage I didn't know about.

That is Blue dymonwood scales. The original project (that never was done) called for a 346 blade.

You all have a 0345GYSWM-B, 345 with Charcoal Dymondwood, oiled.

Jeff,

Are the 0345GYSWM-B the "original project" you mentioned, and if so how many were made? If not, are these a new regularly available model that we will see for a while?

Thanks
Fritz

For those who got these with no labels, here's what they look like. All of mine had them.
I wonder what the orange dot with 101 in it means. It seems to me that I've seen a dot like that on boxes that came from Walmart.

My box was smashed and had the label tore off of it.

The handles also look like they missed the last finishing step of polyurethane or whatever coating Buck usually uses to seal the handles.

No issue for me at the price that I got it though. Great user for the price!

Jeff ensures that these are oiled, but are not oiled so heavily that they come wet. The more I have handled mine the more confidence I have in thier ability to stand up.

Yup....got my two today also...same supplier....same thing....paper envelope with two fairly crushed boxes and stickers peeled off in it....still not sure why they had to remove everyone's box stickers. Oh well....good price.

Thats pretty much how mine arrived also. I just wanted the knives anyway! In comparing them to my Avid model, I noticed the scales on these "selects" are thicker and the grooves are cut quite a bit deeper also! One other thing I noticed is my Vantage avid isnt etched with Buck on the blade like these are.

Great knife at a great price!

If/when I decide to carry mine I'll probably put a little mineral oil on the handles. However, it's a small think, think that they may actually handle better in the hand the way they came.

Mine has a dark camo look to it that I like. Again, great deal for the price! I made an offer on the first round and he took it some I'm thrilled.

Anyone know of others like this out there?

ohen,

I thought about putting some Hoppes gun oil on it which I treat my gun stock every time I clean them. I also have put it on all my old ebony 110's and it has brought dry looking scales back to new. I, however am a little hesitant to put anything on this one for some reason. I expect at some point I will overcome it...probably when I get a 2nd for test purposes.

Ah, thought we got ourselves some rarities:( Oh well, sweet knives.

I hope they arent rare, I already have mine all scratched up :D (well o.K. a little bit) ;) I am really happy with the wood handle in the "select" knife!

Basically then all the info in this thread means I still have to find a red, blue, and green handled version yet.... :D

I decided try it but with a lube that I've used on my smokepoles for years after cleaning them. I've used it on stocks with Truoil finsh and also ones with just a linseed oil finish. In this case, I don't see any difference after giving the knife a pretty good soaking and wipedown. I feel like what ever Buck is putting on them seals them pretty well or I'd see some difference in the before and after and I can't.

I honestly can't feel any difference Kevin. The stuff I used is silicon based and is pretty slick, but I had the treated one in one hand and an untreated one in the other. No difference in the feel to me. At least there wasn't after I got the stuff washed off my hands. ;)

Mine seems bone dry and a bit rough.

I'll likely put mineral oil on it someday when I get around to using it (lose my current Vantage).

Does anyone know if the "WM in the knife number on the label stand for Walmart? I just picked up another 110 at Walmart and noticed that it's model number also contains "WM". Like these Vantages, it has an orange dot with the number 61 in it that corresponded to the number next to a picture of the knife in their display case.
