A one million star hotel: an overnight @ 2500 mt

I don't remember ever seeing photos of birds .Do you have eagles there ?
Not too far from me is Hawk Mountain a famous place for watching migrating hawks. They count each one !! We have bald eagles here [original definition of bald was ' white headed' ] Not far west of here is the path of eastern golden eagles. They nest in Quebec and migrate SW just missing me !
I wondered who eats the marmots , eagles ?

mete mete : Hi! Yes, we have several species of birds of prey :). Most commons are the Golden Eagle, Red Kite, Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon and the Eurasian Eagle-Owl, visible mainly during the night and not that easily :D. I have a few pics of the Golden Eagles and I think I also have posted some here. I’m not properly a “birdwatching guy”, anyway :D:p. I’d say it’s possible to see them but not on every hike and shooting at them (with cameras, eh! :)) getting good results requires some more skills than my amateurish ones and definitely a better equipment than my P&S camera or mobile phone :D. Thanks! Ciao :)!

Amazing pictures of even more amazing views! I love those huge peaks but every aspect is beautiful.

For the birds? We have lots of crows here but Ravens ? I had never even looked for Ravens and never heard of any sightings .But recently some said they are here . Many years ago they were here , then disappeared but now are returning ! Studied the Raven vs Crow details and just recently saw a pair over the river ! The same pair , it seems, a number of times. Last week was the final proof . Flying close with sun and direction just right , there was the proof , iridescence of a Raven ! :D

That was one of the better posts I've seen on the forum. What an epic journey, and your pictures were outstanding! I wish there was someplace like that near me. You're going to post another thread like this after your next trip, right? :p

Hi!

A.W.U.K. A.W.U.K. : Thanks! True, many times, especially when I was young, I have been very “goal oriented” :) in my hikes and only focused on getting on that specific peak. With the family, a lot has changed and I am truly enjoying my “being on the way”, the journey taking me there. With the kids today we stop almost every half an hour or so :D and I am not so annoyed anymore. It’s nice to sit down in a clearing and watch the sun rays piercing the canopy while eating a sandwich; stopping by a waterfall, a spring, a small pond and playing with the splashes; taking the time to follow a butterfly or watching the busy activities of the ants in the woods :). Even if, at the end of the day we have just covered 1/3 of what was planned, it doesn’t matter. We have been together and had some good time and memories.

mete mete : Hi! Yes, we also have ravens (actually it’s more carrion crows) but it’s more likely to meet them in the plains here rather than up in the mountains. Where I live we have a few and they even sets colonies in the old farm houses around here, together with the swallows and, recently also the storks are back :cool:!

T theJman : Thanks for appreciation! Glad you enjoyed the reading and the pics :)! There are many great posts of fantastic journeys I read here! Since this keeps me good company and allows me to virtually travel around the world in places I’ll probably never manage to visit, I try to “give back” some :). Yes, I know I’m lucky to have this “playground” one and a half hour driving from my door! Surely I’ll post more. Next weekend we’re planning to go up in the valleys for some transhumance country fairs, let’s see if I’ll have some decent pics to share :)!

N neeman : Thank-you! Yes, it was since some years now I was not going for overnight. I have missed something :)! Plan to take my elderly son with me next time. Wife and daughter are not so much “camping girls” :D:p and the little one it’s still too young.

Take care!
