A pause to remember what it's all about

Heading back when it freezes over again! Haha.

Haha, gotcha, yearly thing  I got your location mixed up :o:)

Glad you got to get out on the Cumberland trail again Mist, even if a different part of it

Hey! Small world :D My youth was divided between Nanakuli/Waianae/Makaha and town. Yoks, Makua, Ka'ena...all favorites, spent a lot of time on the beaches towards the end of the island :)

Great shots of great fields and blades. Always love to see and read these stuff.
Let me share some of mine.

Wild swans (Cygnus columbianus) wintering in Biwa lake north east coast.
It was a great view landing and taking flight of wild swans.

Landing on the lake. It's shallow around on this spot that they take roost here.

Taking flight to the strong wind in the morning, gains magnificent speed quickly.

Landing on the rice field to feed in flock.

Some wild fruit harvested around my former house.

Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains. We make a trip each October. One of my favorite places ever.

Everytime I even get close to that, my wife makes me trim it.

Fujita - What knife is that with the fruit? Maker, steel, handle?

This is a tough one, I have been to a lot of really nice places. Here are a few that rank high for me:

Big Wet Meadow, Cloud Canyon, Kings Canyon NP (hope to make a loop through it again next year or 2011)
Whitney2006096.jpg

Franklin Lake, Sequoia NP (with any luck I will spend a night there next month; I usually sleep on the shelf on the left with the trees)

Bullfrog Lake, Kings Canyon NP (don't know when I will be there again, I'm working on it)
KingsCanyon2009533.jpg

Wanda Lake, Kings Canyon NP (not the most specatacular scenery, but when I was there the light was just right and the water was an amazing cobalt blue, which the camera did not even come close to capturing)
KingsCanyon2008474.jpg

Upper Basin, Kings Canyon NP

Tehipite Valley, Kings Canyon NP. Just like Yosemite Valley in size and splendor, but with no people. I did not see anyone else for three days when I went up this canyon.

Giant Forest, Sequoia NP. I go here regularly, but winter is the best time.

I was hoping you'd chime in with some of the amazing places you've visited, lambertiana . And Fujita will give you full info, but I believe that is one of the knives he's made :).

And we can't forget a spot we will most likely visit again next Christmas - Hundred Islands National Park, Pangasinan, Philippines

And for a lesson in what should be on my list but isn't, Rae Lakes, Kings Canyon NP. Beautiful location, but too many people for my taste (on the John Muir Trail, plus part of the very popular Rae Lakes Loop). I want to feel solitude in the mountains, and I didn't feel it here.

Thanks, lambertiana.
That knife was made by myself about fifteen years ago as rksoon said.
OAL 200mm, Blade 90mm long, 3mm thick.
Steel is M2, bolster in stainless but the bolt is nickel silver :D

The fruit is Akebia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akebia
Very sweet fruit found in the bush in autumn.
There's an interesting way to find this fruit.
Birds called Japanese white-eye loves this fruit so much. They are very cute small birds but are very aggressive and give great alarm call if we make an approach to this fruit while they are feeding  We can tell the location of the fruit by this call ;)

Your shots are really amazing! especially the Giant forest in snow

This thread really is terrific.

Here are a few additional photos of my favourite spot:
