A problem im having, Its mental.

I have the same problem from time to time. I'm a liscensed architect working as a carpenter. Work in construction is tight and some days I find myself watching TV, listening to radio and browsing blade forums and other websites off an on. When things suck I can't shell out money for a 100 dollar knife when I still have a collection of Buck knives that does what I need done.

If it isn't in the budget, don't break the bank.

If money is tight and this is an issue for you, make sure you REALLY want the knife you're looking at. Put it in a separate portion of your bank account and don't touch it until you've figured out your grail knife. The first expensive knife is definitely a hard one to buy, especially since you should be aware that you just find it easier and easier to buy more expensive knives.

If money is really that tight, I would save it, personally. I try to budget carefully, and then I'll set aside whatever small amount from each paycheck for new knife stuff. In the meantime, I can research what I want. It took me several months to save for a new knifemaking grinder, and now I'm in for the wait.

What knives are you looking at, and what are you budgeting for the expenditure?

If yu're worried about losing a knife, get a nice belt sheath for your folders and use dual retention for your fixedblades. Been doing this a while and so far so good.

Well i have about 300$ set aside that i been putting aside for a few months, The issue i got is now that i have it im not sure if that's what i should do with it. I sat it aside just for that, i also sat other money aside for going out with gf and what not.

Im also looking at a wide variety of things in a wide variety of prices. Variety is where i get jammed up, there is so much to choose from.
Para 2
Zt 0350
ZT0300
SuperLeaf
Sage
Lionsteel SR1 (cant really find it for the price im willing to pay for it though, most places are out of stock with it)
Ontario Rat 3
Microtech Select fire
Benchmade 710
bradley alias 1

too many choices *explodes*

I dont wear a belt though. Dont even wear pants with belt loops 75% of the time.

How about a kydex neck knife sheath. I'm sure I've seen something like that for folders...somewhere.

ETA: If I was worried about losing a knife I just wouldn't get an expensive one. I think it would take the enjoyment out of using it.
I did get in the habit of checking my side every so often to make sure my blade is there though. Got into this habit when I first started carrying a pistol.

Probablly, i dont even wear my neck knives as that though, i wear it around my waist, witch i suppose i could do with anything

The biggest problem is i have not a single knife shop in my area, even places like dicks sporting goods are a almost hour drive and there selection is expensive and small.

Really depends on what you're looking for. Para 2 is a great choice from the Spyderco lineup, particularly if you need something slicy. It's not hard use, and not the same kind of knife as the Zero Tolerance lineup. I'd probably go for the 550 or the 560 over anything else from ZT, personally.

It sounds like the biggest issue you're having is that you haven't sat down and thought about what is important to YOU personally in terms of knife features. And that's something you seriously need to do (and also NOT something you should post a thread about).

What do you like and dislike about the knives you have now? What do you wish they had? Once you've compiled a list, start researching and look for features that you've designated. Try to find as close to your perfect knife as possible. What do you like about the knives you're looking at. Find the one that has the most pros and the fewest cons (for you).

A few things to keep in mind--smoothness of action and ergonomics tend to take a much higher profile in more expensive knives than they do with cheaper ones. While there's nothing particularly wrong in either of those, particularly for Spyderco and Kershaw, those two features, along with fit and finish, are just generally better.

I was in your position a couple years ago. Now I can't go anywhere without one of my top-end knives, all of which are 200+ (generally an HTM DDR Gun Hammer or a Benchmade Rift). I can't even bring myself to EDC my less expensive knives, even my beloved Ritter Griptilian.

Seriously, don't expect buying a high end knife to be the end of the addiction, particularly not if your list includes such widely varied steel as what you just posted. You'll be happiest if you can zero in on exactly what you want out of the knife, and get the knife that really calls to you the most. Particularly for those of us on a fairly tight budget, it becomes even more important to really think about and consider what you want from your purchase, lest you regret it. And since that all comes down to personal preference, that's something you're going to need to think about carefully for yourself.

I agree with falcon. Buy the knife you keep going back to and absolutely want. I looked at every sebbie available and my eyes kept coming back to one, so I got it and couldn't be happier. I don't even wanna look at other folders...yet. :p

ETA: I should add for full disclosure that I've never really been into folding knives. I'm the guy that was always happy with a SAK, my thing are fixed blades. Even so I get a nice Randall or something and I don't really have many desires for another knife for a couple years.

No rush to get an expensive knife, that's what tax returns are for. :) It's a gift to your self and you just decide how bad you want it..might rather upgrade tv, blu ray player, laptop, etc. In the end there really is no need for a $100+ production knife and life still goes on. If you question it then just wait or don't bother at all.

My wife and I were just sitting on $35,000 and only knives I purchased were for the kitchen, 6 of them often used in professional kitchens for less than what a Paramilitary costs...still a knife lover. Nobody outside the web cares if you have a $200 hot new folder that are in forums threads and videos.

Thanks though my mind was on tunnel vision maybe a knife isnt what i need.

Annnnddd....after all these members have been nice enough to take time and offer advice...now you don't want a knife at all. Seems like we've been down this "short attention span" road an awful lot of threads in an awful lot of screen names with you, haven't we?

So much for the new Chris Farms/experiaarcs/Frankie Schwartz/etc.

I'm done with this. Best of luck to you and enjoy BladeForums.

Easy guys. None of us were forced to contribute to this thread. I'm sure if we had better things to do than be here, we'd be doing them. ;)

Back when I was buying knives, I spent (and wasted) a few thousand dollars on knives that I wound up regretting. Eventually I learned my lesson and started to put a lot more thought into my purchases. Personally speaking, if I can help someone avoid making the same mistakes I made by spending a few minutes typing, I'd consider that a good deed.

I reiterate my previous point- A knife doesn't have to be expensive or cost $100 or more to be a quality knife and provide one with a lifetime of valuable service. I wonder how many people fall under the spells of Bladeforums and believe they NEED to spend big money on a knife, either to have a quality knife, or to be excepted in the Bladeforums community.

I regret several expensive knife purchases I made in the past, especially when I know that my old $25 Buck 110 would have served me just as well as all the fancy, expensive, folders I've bought. Oh well, live and learn.
