A Promised GAW ~ WINNER ~ Post #11 - ALLHSS

No entry.
I'm halfway to the 100. Couple more years I'll be there.
Hope your sabbatical is necessarily short. I can see with my thread reading how much you are appreciated here and well liked.
So long for now.

This Buck 301 Stockman is the knife most associated with me by anyone who knows me; a birthday gift from my Grandma in 1970 and the pocketknife I have owned longer than any other I possess. I am not entering this GAW, as I have already been the recipient of a wonderful pocketknife (vintage Schrade Walden) from Brett last month (when he had lost these knives), however I do want to honor Brett's time here and I admire your ability to focus on what's most important in life - your family! Thanks for all you contribute here as well, I will look forward to your return. OH

Not an entry as I recently won a Washington Jack from Charlie himself and I don't want to be greedy. I was really, really tempted though. I love that blade configuration, ebony, and the lack of a bail. Thanks for the fun, positive presence you have always been here in Traditionals! Your posts and pics have always been interesting and informative. Best of luck as you move forward with family. Stop by to say "hi" from time to time.

My most used knife changes from year to year. This year it's the #15 Crown Lifter:

Thanks for your contributions Brett...hope your hiatus is short. I'd say between my #85 Cocobolo and my #66 Calf Roper ebony, the knife I am most associated with is the one in my avatar...the #85. Thanks for a great GAW.

My wife surprised me by saying that, when it comes to knives, she thinks of me with this Opinel! I suppose since it's still too cold to whittle outside, she hasn't seen me using a knife for anything but food prep since last fall, and I always have this Opinel on the kitchen counter.

Thanks for the generous GAW, Brett!:thumbup: I'm glad you found your knife back; I think I had "put my money" on your daughter hiding it in her sock drawer, but she's apparently way more creative than I am. :D I had a thread once describing the "Amazing Grace" I experienced here, and that old hymn keeps popping up in the strangest ways! I can hear your knife singing, "I once was lost, but now am found…" ;)

I'm sorry you'll be cutting back your presence here, but I admire you for keeping realistic priorities. I know for me, there's little danger of me spending too much money on knives, but spending too much time on knife-related activities is definitely a concern! :( Thanks for being a good example in all your interactions here.

A wonderful giveaway. Not an entry from me but good luck to those that do

:)

Seeing as I have no children and have passed the age of that being likely, I probably won't ever be a grandpa. So this will be an "old codger" entry. I received this knife over the holidays as a gift, and even wrote a story about it. I promised I would keep it with me always. I hope to keep that promise.

So here is my "old codger" entry.

Great knife that 22 of yours btmcc.

Brett Fine GAW, most generous but NOT an entry thank you. As you can see, I have a Conductor (3 actually) so I don't want to push in front of others.

Regards, Will.

Brett, what a great story and amazing giveaway! I am about to be a father too so I see my free time shrinking back substantially pretty soon. I hope my knives don't start disappearing into toys as well!

To answer your question, I think the one thing I could not live without is the love of my wife and family. They are why I wake up and do what needs to be done every day and I'm very lucky to have them.

The knife my wife chose as mine is actually one that she just gave me for my birthday and it hasn't seen much pocket time yet.

Thanks for the opportunity!

I am just now moving from fixed blades to traditional folders, as I have found that my lifestyle lends itself more to the beauty and refinement of an exceptional folder than the rugged "necessity" of a fixed blade. So, currently my wife and friends associate an ESEE Izula II with me, but in my infancy as a developing traditionalist I am finding more and more comfort with knives such as my spring green Tidioute Conductor I received only a few days ago...

Mine would have to be my Queen mini trapper in ACSB. I've carried it a ton and it's been a good companion. My girlfriend says it's her favorite because I carried it the day we met. Thanks for the generous giveaway!

Very kind of you Brett. I have had my eye on the conductor with the coping blade so I would like to be included in your GAW.
When I showed my wife the tray with my users in it she pointed to the 2014 Bladeforums knife.

[/IMG] This #15 caplifter, thanks for the chance and congrats on your new daughter.

Hey Brett, glad you found your knife, I had a similar experience when my own kids were young. Sorry to hear that we're not going to be seeing so much of you around my friend, but of course we all understand and wish you well. I hope you'll be back from time to time.

Not an entry please, I have already been the beneficiary of your kindness, having won one of your previous giveaways. So just a thanks for everything you've shared here, and to wish everyone entering good luck. Hope everything continues to go well with your lovely family :)

Brett-Sorry to hear that you will be taking a break, but I fully understand your need. My experiences and discussions with you have been enjoyable.

A grandpa knife is the one that will be associated with the "grandpa", not the ones that sit in the safe, cabinet, or display. For example, my Dad has a respectible Case Knife Collection. I enjoy looking them over and handling them from time to time. Talking with him about which patterns he likes the best, etc. In reality, he carries a knife in his pocket that he is not afraid to use. It was given to me when I worked in the coal mines in South West Virginia and somehow he ended up with it. A $20 lockback Gerber with plastic handles. That is the knife I associate with him, because it is the one he has on him at any given moment. That is the definition of a "grandpa" knife. What I'm saying is, if I had to choose between a rare case knife that he has, or that Gerber, I'd choose that Gerber first!
As for me, I have not found "the knife" yet. I have more patterns to experiment with, but I have found about 4 patterns that I really like and dozens that I just don't care for. If there was a snapshot in time, the TK Cuban below is what my family knows I have in my pocket. So that is my "grandpa" knife for now. What is great, is that I have two identical ones in the tube, so my two boys won't be fighting over who gets it. They both will have one and mine, well, maybe there will be a grandson in the future-time will tell.
You will be missed Brett and I will be very happy when you return to this community.

Anytime anybody in my family says "your knife" this is the one they're talking about:

As for something I couldn't lose, I'm pretty sure we discussed that in a PM not too long ago. ;)

And being a friend, I get another entry. :p

You will be missed, but I'm glad that you're stepping away for a bit. I know you'll be back because you owe me a book report, and no good teacher would let an incomplete report hang out there too long.

Glad you found the knife Brett !!! You will be missed. Come back to visit ! :)

Wonderful photo Curtis. :thumbup::)

I asked my son the question and his first reply was "One knife - you must be kidding me !!!":eek::D

His next reply was my old knives and when pinned down, he finally chose one of my old Catts:

Glad to see you found the little guy  Sorry to hear you are stepping away but completely understand. Please keep in touch.

My grandpa knife is an easy one, the 55 houndstooth is easily my most carried and used(though the TK is a close second lately)
