A question for long time knife buyers.

My rational utilitarian side is ditching some steel and keeping a few 4-6 inch fixed blades. My buy for fun side tends to grab 4 inch to freakin' big folders. Gotta feed the beast sometimes, lol.

Very interesting to see how things change over time as ones knowledge and experience increases. =)

Smaller.
Weight is a consideration.
There are nice knives out there, but when I read about their weight - I realize they are not for me.
While in the city I carry smaller knives, on weekends I pack larger ones.

Started with 3.5 - 4" exclusive. I found for my daily use, all I really need is 2.5 - 3"

Smaller with fixed blades for better control, larger with folders for better ergonomics. The thing I've noticed the most is that handle size is now much more important to me than blade length. A thin handle profile tends to make me really squeeze the knife when I'm making forceful cuts and that rapidly leads to hand fatigue. A thicker, more robust handle lets me focus the force of the cut much more comfortably, making extended use less painful and more efficient.
