I went out for an overnighter last night..... Nothing special, just a trip to clear my head, and enjoy the early fall weather.

It was a pretty lieghtweight trip, I used my Camelback Havoc(a great multi use pack IMO) I packed it up, threw it in my pickup, and headed out to the Lamine River.

Gear list-

Camelback Havoc
Slumberjack Bivy
Quilt
Camp pad
Guyot, cup, spork
PSK
FAK
Fire kit
survival necklace(dont leave home w/o it!)
Fiddleback bushcrafter
Corona Saw
SAK Farmer
Trusty blue thermal Hoodie
Gallon water, food
Pipe and tobbaco
Book

Not a huge gear list.....but enough to be comfy. Looked like rain when I left, but it held off for me, which was nice. Weve had some good rains lately, so I brouht some scrap wood to get a fire going strong b/c I was burnin daylight and didnt know about the wood situation in the valley. I didnt end up really needing it, as I found ample wood out there, but it gave me some nice kindling...

Heres the pics!

kinda intimiating driving into this to camp, but eh....

My gear, pack probably overloaded, but it works!

Fiddleback sweetness. I really love this blade, Andy makes a nice one! I am really fond of carrying it dangler style. Really comfy, and keeps it lower then the belt of my pack.

my fire kit. Jute on a sewing bobbin, PJ balls, fatwood, ferro rod, and trusty bic.

I split alot of wood with the FB. Held up just fine, and very comfy in my paws. I did also split a big 5in dia piece of cedar with it too! Flat performs.

It was a nice simple trip. Just some time to reboot. Ive been under alot of stres lately. Family health issues, work, etc etc. Its just what I needed. Sorry for the blurry pics, Dont quite no what happened there. My camera died overnight so I didnt get any pics this AM, bummer. But I hope you enjoyed, and get to get out yourselves.

Great pics and I think more people should do trips like these to center themselves...

i also have the sportsmans guide version and love it for summer camping since its got a fly and can be left open for hot days.

great pics man, every man needs a weekend getaway here and there to stay sane!

I didnt know they had em there! I bought mine at a local place called The Alpine Shop. It was on clearance at the end of season last year. Its a great bivy, I really like it. I replaced the original stuff sack with a Xtra small silcordura stuff sack, and it fits nicely(minus poles) Makes it very light and compact.....

Thanks guys.... Ive been away from posting lately, kinda missed my WSS brethren.

Actually, the bivy in the sack is in the main compartment of the camelback with the guyot, cup and food! Yep. packs small.

The green bag has my quilt, and the black one on the bottom has my pad.

i am jealous of your fiddleback sir :)

do you use a ground sheet with yours? sometimes i bring a silnylon tarp along to expand my camp living space in conjunction with the bivy.

No I didnt....... Just pitched it on the ground. I am eventual gonna add a siltarp for that purpose... So pricey though. But for the weight and pack down size, its hard to beat.

I love the Fiddleback. Andy makes a heluva knife. Its been rode hard the past couple months, but still looks classy.

in summer i've had no problems camping without a ground sheet but when i use the bivy in winter i find it helps to use a ground sheet. im not sure if it actually works but it feels like less heat is being transfered to the ground so thats good.

edit:

what blend were you smokin there? :D

Thanks for sharing man. I'm gonna need to get out here soon. I'm getting ready to head out and do some fishing this afternoon which will relieve some stress and relax me, but I wanna get out for the night before winter shows up. Really like the FB, I need to (plan to) get one soon.

Just the blue package captain black. Good tobbaco is hard to come by locally....

You will love your FB when you get one......

Hope you get out soon brother.

Thanks j williams,

I would have already ordered a FB, but I recently put in an order for a JK (I've wanted one of those for a bit longer than an FB) and so I'm going to wait for a bit to get another knife.

Cool.. I like your bivy! I'm kind of in the market for a smaller tent or large bivy. Do you know how much that one weighs? Weight matters because I usually backpack when I camp.

Those JKs are fine knives, you will be pleased. Ive owned a few. :o

plus, Johns a great guy.

Its under 3lbs with poles. Its great for backpacking man, I am the same, most of my trips are carried on my shoulders.

Simple to set up also, takes about 5 minutes. Made well too. Its stood up to quite a few trips in the past couple years. I plan on taking it to Moab next year on a mountain bike adventure.

Hope all is well with ya Ray. Nice to hear from ya.

Love to learn when other people bring a pipe with them. I'm lucky enough to have a nice store in Baton Rouge and another in Jackson, Ms that I travel to every so often which both sell amazing blends.

Ive been packing one for about a year now. Usually just smoke a nice bowl before bed w/ a cup of tea. Im not a pro yet as far as tobbaco, but im learnin what I like slowly. Something very primal and relaxing about a good smoke and a fire.
