Okay the entire forum seems to be locked down, does anyone know why?

thanks.

I've got a solution that will fix this. The Political Arena is one of the biggest thorns in my side these days. Since you folks seem to have such a problem with being civil to each other in there, being able to have rational discourse, and keeping things on an even keel, I'm going to temporarily shut it down while I consider it's ultimate fate.

It's in the other thread.

I'm really kind of surprised everyone has to ask.

Seems pretty obvious that it may as well be renamed the fight club because thats all that seems to take place when folks start talking about politics.

Brings out the worst in folks, myself included. We should probably just dump the entire forum and not look back.

I've been saying that same exact thing for years.

if it does go away, can a "religion" forum be created to replace it? :p

Only if the forum software can be set to automatically permanently ban anyone who posts in it. :D

As previously mentioned in the other thread if you do that then you are going to simply disperse the political threads through the entire website. If you gather a large enough group of people politics will be discussed it's inevitable.

Without a political forum, the moderators are going to spend a large amount of their time forum wide dealing with "forbidden politics" whenever it is mentioned.

if people can't keep their political yaps shut when on a site about knives, then it's a basic problem with lack of maturity. This reminds me of the green chiclet thing :jerkit:

look on the bright side, the guy who joins BF to troll in politics won't have any reason to come back anymore:cool::thumbup:

What a shame that they chose to lock the political forum.
Demanding that people pay to use it smacks too much of censorship to me, and I have no intention of rewarding such behavior.
I used to visit this forum to read about knife throwing, which has been a hobby of mine for almost 50 years. I found some great stuff there, like Ralph Thorn's throwing videos, but I can no longer throw since my elbow joints have deteriorated too much, so there isn't much here to interest me other than the political forum.
There are great political forums all over the place that don't take such a silly approach. For anyone who is looking for an alternative site, I can recommend www.politicalforums.com. They are a non-partisan site and I always found them much more balanced than bladeforums which is largely a right wing site.
I suspect that the political forum here will soon degenerate into an inbred clan with most posters preaching to the choir and only poor Fred and NV left to provide any semblance of true discussion.
I wish you all well.

Robert

So you found this place useful for all of your knife needs but you won't support it because you're blocked out of the Political Forum? Did you forget that this is first and foremost a knife discussion site? If you are here to debate politics first and knives second, well then I guess this place isn't for you then. The owner of this site reserves the right to do as he wishes with his privately owned and operated forum and if you feel that is censorship then you really don't know what censorship is. You are free to debate politics elsewhere.

How is it "censorship," exactly? Regardless of your political views, you have to be a paying member to post there.

Well, for one thing, the "cheapskate/freeloader" point of view is being effectively supressed through this new policy. :p;):D

Moderating politics is a huge PITA.

I wouldn't want the responsibility.

I don't post in it, so I wouldn't miss it.

I never really felt the need to post about politics on a knife forum, but I may miss it when I do. I found it to be very stressful to post there, I think it is harsher than whine and cheese which bears a warning.

Couldn't care less what happens to the political forum. Stay or go, pay or free, it won't make one bit of difference to me.
