A real disruption in the political forum

Wasn't the original intent to be policies and issues relating to knives?

No. We had a forum named "Knife News and Views" which was for current social and political pressures on knife ownership. That became such a dumping ground for unrelated threads, it was recently changed to Current Events.

I don't want to knit-pick, but current events is a lot different than knife news.

Yes, it is different. More than the name was changed. And the Political Arena was made subordinate to it.

Knife News as it stood no longer had a coherent mission.

What a shame that they chose to lock the political forum.
Demanding that people pay to use it smacks too much of censorship to me, and I have no intention of rewarding such behavior.
I used to visit this forum to read about knife throwing, which has been a hobby of mine for almost 50 years. I found some great stuff there, like Ralph Thorn's throwing videos, but I can no longer throw since my elbow joints have deteriorated too much, so there isn't much here to interest me other than the political forum.
There are great political forums all over the place that don't take such a silly approach. For anyone who is looking for an alternative site, I can recommend www.politicalforums.com. They are a non-partisan site and I always found them much more balanced than bladeforums which is largely a right wing site.
I suspect that the political forum here will soon degenerate into an inbred clan with most posters preaching to the choir and only poor Fred and NV left to provide any semblance of true discussion.
I wish you all well.

Robert

When's the last time you made a post (other than this one) outside the Political Arena? Not within the last 500, at least.

I don't really have a personal beef with you, and I wouldn't call you a troublemaker or register a complaint against you, but I'm compelled to ask, wth are you even doing here? I mean, I like ska music, but I wouldn't go join a ska music forum, then only discuss politics.

I don't mean to directly insult you, but you're the kind of member that I won't miss from BF. If you're on a knife forum and not talking about knives, then what use are you? "Demanding" money isn't even remotely censorship. That's a total non-sequitor. However, limiting political discussion on a knife site to people who contribute to knife discussion (monetarily or contextually) makes perfect sense to me.

I don't blame you for not wanting to pony up $10 (or more) just so you can talk politics at a site that otherwise doesn't interest you. As you mentioned, there's perfectly good politics forums out there. I sincerely hope you're happy there where you at least won't be diverted by any distracting knife content.

I wish you well too, and if you ever have a question about knives, you know where we are.

Well thought out and said! (at least from my point of view).

Never understood why anyone would join a knife forum and spend the vast majority of time not discussing knives. At least if they decide to leave, it is no loss to the community here.

The other benefit of closing it off is that we have some who have joined 20+ times for the sole purpose of trolling the political forum just to spew and offer little for a basis of discussion and hatred towards others who do not hold to the party spin that they worship only to be banned and return to do the same.
