A sad riddle, although it might be humorous to the audience here:
How far will a John Deere riding lawnmower throw a Combat Grade BB13?

Life is hard, but it is so much harder when you're stupid.... :(

ETA: Yeah.... "throw." I was so distraught, I forgot how to spell "THROW."

I'm an idiot, several times over.

Do you mean "How far will a John Deere riding lawnmower throw a BB13?"
Not sure if I read that right..

So, yeah.... I accidentally ran over my CGBB13. I had tossed it on the riding lawnmower where I regularly toss a large blade or machete when I go to mow. We're out in the woods, and the trees are constantly encroaching on the yard. So, I always have a chopper of some sort in order to trim back branches. Today, I thought to myself, "Self, the CGBB13 is such an awesome blade, I'm going to use it for this today." So, I tossed it into the bin. I had actually finished about 60% of the yard, riding over some rough stuff, and it hadn't budged. I had used it a few times, worked GREAT, just awesome for this work.
I went to the front half, out near the road, mowing the taller stuff. I had made a few passes back and forth. I hit something at one point that made an awful noise, but I couldn't see the remains of what it hit, and figured it was a larger branch that I hadn't seen in my path. Made a few more passes, and got to a point where I needed the blade again. I reached for it, and my hand came down on emptiness. "Whaaaa?!!"
I started going back over where I had been, thinking, "Oh, it just fell out, I'll find it and we'll be on our way." No joy. Hmmm.... where the **** could it have dropped? WAITAMINIT!!!!!
OH CRAP!!!! I know what that godawful noise was!!!!
So, I immediately went to where I heard the noise, and shut down the mower. It had happened right next to the treeline, but with the chute pointing toward the road. So first I looked in the ditch. Nothing. Went back, looked on the other side of the mower, thought maybe it got thrown into the woods on the wrong side. Nothing. Plus, there was a lot of small saplings and stuff there that would have stopped it, or it would have made a large swath of "cut."
OK, back to the chute side. There was a cedar tree there with a bunch of vines, poison ivy, honeysuckle, briars... I get down low and start looking in there. I can see through it, see the ground. No blade. Hmmmmm.....
The other side of the road? Geez, I hope not. Lots of undergrowth, poison ivy, briars, grass... I'll never find it if it crossed the road.
I walk over to the other side, looking in the ditch there. I walked probably 100 ft back up the road looking in the ditch, nothing. DA**!!! Where the heck did that thing go?

So, I go back to the mower. I actually looked underneath to see if it had somehow gotten lodged under the deck. Nothing. ARGH!!!! It must have flown all the way across the road and into the undergrowth over there.... or lodged in a passing vehicle and no one realized it!
So, finally, I just said OK, it had to go into the undergrowth on the other side of the road. So, I went back and parked the mower in the exact spot where the noise occurred, went to the other side of the road, and sighted back to the mower and walked to where I was a straight shot from the chute. Turned around, jumped the ditch, and started looking in the undergrowth. Only took me about 15 seconds scanning back away from the road to see metal laying in the undergrowth. It looked in one piece. Oh, and did I mention that I got a muddy blade coating? I don't know how I actually managed to find it. And the part I could see looked to be a major piece. Maybe most of it. All of it? Could I be so lucky?
I fished it out, past the briars and the poison ivy. It was in one piece, for the most part. About a quarter-inch of the tip was broken off. And just on the inside front edge of the recurve, it looks at a glance to have about 1.5 inches of serrations. And there is about a 1/8" to 3/16" chip out of the edge a little closer to the handle than the new serrations. There is a small chip taken out of the spine, and the coating was scraped down to bare metal in several places. I thought the resciprene grip had survived unscathed, until I got it cleaned up good. Turns out the recsiprene (sp?) was cracked at the butt on both sides, right where the thong-hole is. Pretty significantly on the one side, not so much on the other.
Post mortem on the mower.... the blade pierced the deck on the back side, knocking a tear in the deck about 3/4" long. Not a clean pierce; brute force. Another near pierce, looks like from the point of the blade, on the front side of the deck. Several dents (maybe chips?) in the mower blade on the chute side of the deck (right side). A minor dent on one side of the other mower blade. Not enough metal out of the blades to cause them to seem unbalanced when running. Finished mowing with no problem from the mower. Glad my wife is in another state right now.
I'll try to get some photos and post them tomorrow.
Oh, and the answer to the riddle: About 55".
Hope you enjoy the story of my misfortune. I wish I had gotten the BGBB13; it would have been a less expensive lesson. Although, with the difference in weight I imagine there to be, it would have probably gotten thrown twice as far, and I would never have found it.

Now I just have to figure out where I go from here. Don't have the tools to repair it myself.

I am such an idiot....

super bummer. nothing run like a deere. sound like a busse spa visit is in order. Obviously not a warranty claim, but they might like the story. Let them decide. Of course ya cant blame em either way. I feel for you.

No, I wouldn't dream of a warranty claim. But hopefully I can send it in once they get their custom shop back in business. I'm guessing that they don't do spas until the shop opens back up.
