A Shot from the Snark-ebus

I kinda like the looks of the new CRKT Ikoma Fossil. I've been leery of CRKT because every blade of theirs I've owned (3 to date) has had a crap heat treat.

I just made my first kydex sheath! It kinda looks like I heated up some kydex and then waded it up into a ball then stuch a bk14 into it! But it holds the bk14!

This sounds like the time I made a sheath out of PVC for a chisel/kiridashi type thing I made out of a leaf spring... Held the thing tool just fine, and worked perfect... Looked like it came out of a ducks backside.

When I was a kid, you could buy a knife most anywhere. Even if you were under 18, as long as you didn't look like a hooligan, you could just buy a blade from a 5 & dime, a drug store, mom 'n pop stores, etc.

Most of the time, they were just cheap knives made in Japan, possibly even the US.. They hadn't started with the Pakistan junk yet. Most had some kind of celluloid handle or some cow bone.. The steel was ok, unless you got one of the chrome plated pot metal... You could give them a crude edge and peel/knarl up an apple.

All the guys had one in their pocket, even in school...Most were folders, but some carried a small fixed blade.

I loved those things...

Anybody else remember them, or like them?... I saw a thread elsewhere on BF and was just curious if any of the older beckerheads ever bought them, have them, or are even fond of them..

What do you think?

No, I never had them. Growing up my father was a staunch knife disliker. It wasn't to the point he hated them but he really didn't like them.

So I have a Crossbreed Supertuck coming my way for my Glock.
Anybody here use one? How do you like it?

Amanda got a few nice pictures of a Sharp Shinned Hawk that got one of the birds at our feeders. Quite a pile of feathers from that little bird.

For reference, I was born in 1962 (hence, my sign in name) and grew up in the boondocks about 50 south of St. Louis. The closest hardware or dime stores were about 10 miles away, so I didn't casually drop by after school. I can't remember if I got my first knife when I joined Cub Scouts at age 8, or became a Webelo at age 10. At that time, one was really all I needed so it was a long time before I got a second one. I still have that knife. Looks like it was made by Imperial, Providence, RI, USA.

They are supposed to be really nice... I bought a Theis. It's almost identical to the supertuck, just less expensive. That's why I went with it. Saw his product being praised on the glock forum. Nice guy, fair turnaround time. Excellent product. I expect you'll like the supertuck.

I have one for a commander size 1911. I like it a lot and it conceals really well. The only thing I would really like to be different is the belt clips.....I wish they were a little bit smaller. I've been meaning to order a set of the clips used on the comptac mtac holster to try on it. There are other companies that make similar holsters for less, but I like supporting the smaller family owned company. I like that that offer an Leo, military, and NRA discount too.

Relax, they pretty much all look like that.

Sorry, that was a bit uncalled-for. I never have liked the looks of plastic sheaths and I probably never will. One of these days I'll be forced to embrace 'em, though... till then, I reserve the right to snark about them :D

Don't remember the folders so much. My father was a knife person, so I had Boker, Case, Queen, and Schrade knives from the start. I do remember a big honkin' stainless fixed blade from Japan. Paid $5, and it cut the head off many a fish. Still own it.

Oh yeah, chili slaw dogs...

Hot buffalo Bugles and a MGD. Kind of a pre-supper warm up and stretch.

Crossbreeds are ok until the leather portion gets soft and looses its shape. Yeah, that happens.

Where are you saying it loses its shape? The area the gun contacts or elsewhere? Mine still holds my gun fairly snug, but I do expect it to loosen up over time. They are own holsters so if I'd they loosen up a lot they will be fine once you buckle your belt. I have a comptac mtac that loosened up a lot and won't even come close to holding my cw9 in it, but it holds secure in my waistband.

My first knife was the Boker (bottom) shown here. The Schrade 12OT (top) is the knife I most often carry these days.

I'll admit it. I suit up my traditionals when I carry them.

I made chicken enchiladas for supper with some black beans. Now I'm sitting on the couch watching the cars slide down the hill because people don't understand that velocity>gradient+snow. So far only two people have run into the mail box. One of them was a blazer LMAO Stupid people, put it into 4lo and just crawl up the hill you will be fine. Unless it's the 2wd version in which case, you're an idiot for buying that POS.

LoL! I'm an 80's child and have always loved knives. I remember buying my first knife from a market when i was 6 or 7 years old with the $10 that took me half the year to save for lol. It was one of those chrome plated pot metal chinese buck knockoffs. Come to think of it...It still might be under a pile of stuff in my garage.....

found it! lol
