A Shot from the Snark-ebus

The force is strong with this one.

I did about the same thing with my Dad's Buck 110 when I was a wee tike. I stole it, opened it half way, almost snapped it closed on my fingers, managed to open it the rest of the way and stabbed the floor with it before he was on to me.

Tell me about it! She takes after her father ;) When I was 4 or 5 I was jealous that my older brother got a SAK "pocket pal" for camp. We shared a room growing up and when he left it on his side table I had to play with it! I was scolded numerous times earlier when asking him to see it (because my parents didn't want me to touch it in fear of me cutting myself) but with nobody around I was free to do as I liked. I ended up closing it on my thumb and almost removed the entire underbelly of my thumb from joint to tip and all the way down to the bone. I ended up hiding under my bed because I didn't want to get in trouble for playing with it. When my parents came looking for me they found me by the pool of blood that was seeping out from under the bed lol! When we went to the hospital to see what they could do my thumb was too small to stitch so the doctor super glued both sides back on and wrapped it in a mini cast. Lucky for me it re-attached and I still to this day have a cool scar lol! After seeing that telling me NO wouldn't discourage me from playing with knives my dad gave me this;

and showed me how to properly use knives :)

Who needs a hospital? :D

Looks like I'm going to be stuck watching kids cartoons all day long with my little ones...... any suggestions (other then spending all day on here) on how to pass the time without going insane? I cant really leave the room or they start to freak out (cause they are sick :()

Yay children's ear infections :(

LOL I am actually a stay at home daddy 99% of the time now. So yes... one can only watch so much yo gabba gabba without thinking about stepping out into traffic. BUT Things like bladeforums, sharpening blades when its safe, A LOT of coffee, making extravagant breakfasts/lunches, working on small quick projects, etc etc seem to be better than Dora the Explorer. Although honestly the best days me and my kiddos have are the days we spend away from the boob tube, and they are engaged. Nature walks, play time in the back yard, book reading, play with toys, or just rough housing around the living room. Considering they are sick, I would suggest reading a few books, and light indoors playtime. The more engaged they are, and comfortable, the happier everyone's going to be... LOL Oh and Ibuprofen is your best friend. Sorry to rant there probably saying a lot of things you already know, but being a dad is the best, and my favorite thing I have ever done.

Kinda bummed today, got one of those calls that you hate to get last night about 9:30. Turns out a old friend of mine that Ive known since i was 2yrs. old died. He sadly was a extreme alcoholic. His esophegus ruptured and basically choaked to death on his own blood. He was 40.

Sorry for your loss. And yeah, was just razzing you, sorta, since I couldn't help but notice that the name Jonny1280 came up with had first initials TM. Evidently inappropriate timing, given this post. That's a really crappy call to receive, for sure. A lot of people I know have lost someone close to them in the last month.

I totally screwed up a knife late last night/early this morning and i blame it on the snark thread being locked. If the snark wasnt locked i wouldnt of got up and started messing with the knife in the first place.

Maybe it was the fact i was a wee bit intoxicated, or the fact i was bored and couldnt snark.... But i was whittling a stick and then though hell, i wonder how well of a throwing knife this would be.... So i threw it... and it DOESNT make a good thrower at all.... Or i dont make a good thrower at all, either or... But the knife bounced off the target, and the tip hit the concrete floor in the basement... S35VN ended up with just a tiny chip in it... I was relieved honestly when i seen how small the edge damage was, i threw it pretty hard so i expected worse damage when it hit the concrete....

So no worries, just a little chip, i decided id grab the worksharp and fix her right on up... HUGE mistake.. Now the edge on one of my favorite neckers is ALL screwed up. I gave up on fixing it for fear of completely destroying the knife but im going to have to send it to be fixed now. :(

Wow man, post up a picture! Lets see what you are working with here. AND NO MATTER WHAT, we ALL have done things like this. My grandpa was actually the one who showed me how to throw knives when I was around 6-7 (yah he was pretty damn cool) lol He also explained things to me about that not every knife is a throwing knife etc etc.... BUT on a whim as a kid I sent my Old Timer sailing in to the front porch... knife stuck, but then the handle came to meet the porch too... basically I just put a nice 90 degree angle in my blade towards the tip... Awesome... well needless to say I also had to figure out how to straighten it back out without anyone knowing. Still have the thing too!

Thanks for the ideas! I was a stay at home day for 11months between jobs when it was just me and the boy. After a trip to the clinic this morning he crashed for a nap after medication. Now is up and running around with energy again. We are in the basement playroom away from the TV now and they are just going nuts on the toys. If he is still in good spirits in an hour or so I may take them over to the in-laws house for some snowmobiling on the arctic "kitty kat" 's

That's great! I was about 3 or so. It was right after we moved into our new house. If I recall, he was working on some baseboards and other items and using it to trim carpet (note why I stabbed the floor. Monkey see - monkey do). after I got a little older, he would lock it open and teach me how to cut stuff or we would sharpen it together....

That was pretty smart. Because now that I think about it he, nor my grandfather, have had to sharpen a knife since I was a kid. I've always done it while sharpening or honing my own knives.

Funny you referenced Yo-Gabba-Gabba earlier. My kids love that show! I find that I can only enjoy it while on _something_ lol ;)

Dude by now I am pretty sure I could quote some of the episodes word for word, song for song, and I wish I was joking! LOL My daughter used to be addicted to yo gabbs, now just watches it occasionally, she likes more "girly" stuff now and mickey mouse clubhouse, she is obsessed with Minnie Mouse, and my boy just doesnt care lol, he likes anything with music in it.

Well I think it may be time to dress them up, get some lunch, and take them over to the in-laws!

See Ya'll in a few hours.

We want to come to the party... the party in your tummy..

Yo Gabba is one of the ones I can tolerate... saw Tony Hawk on one the other day.. plus the music is actually pretty good for a kids show.

My son is stuck on Max and Ruby... so tired of that one.

Yo gabbs is awesome cause they will have good musically guests like The Shins, and The Flaming Lips, and I like that its about moving and listening to music... but man... LOL you watch enough and soon your start to loose a grasp on reality. Its like one big drug trip...

Max and Ruby though, LOL I think I hate Lalaloopsy or Little Bear the most of all.. or some of the cracked out nonsense on Disney JR...

Yeah, you can screw things up in a hurry with power tools... don't ask how I know.
Pics or it didn't happen! how bad? where will you send it?

It was open and she pulled her thumb across the blade and skinned the knuckle. Thank god nothing else happened! You could imagine the ear full I got for that one...

Bet she learned more than your son did!

Sorry to hear about your friend, Todd.

I'm sorry about your friend, Todd. I lost a friend to suicide brought on by substance abuse about this time last year. Not long after that another friend was in a coma for a couple weeks after a heroin overdose. It really sucks to watch someone you love just kinda throw it all away :(

That right there is steps 2-through-17 of G&B's 43.5 Steps to Success

Also, speak in cryptic terms about how incredibly dangerous it is to be anywhere near the machinery when it's running. Or being worked on. Or set-up... it's really best to just stay the heck away from where the actual work happens at all times. And be very clear how office pogues should never, ever interrupt a pressman when he appears to be just standing there staring off into space, because he is actually pondering great mysteries of production management that will be very good for the company's bottom line and help us all get nice Christmas bonuses.

... But i was whittling a stick and then thought hell, i wonder how well of a throwing knife this would be.... So i threw it...

That never ends well.

Who needs a hospital? :D

That's what Jim Henson said, look what happened to him. Seriously though, if you don't keep picking at the scab it will never form a proper nasty-lookin' scar. Chicks dig scars.

HATE yo Gabba. HATE Pingu. HATE Wonder Pets. My youngest likes them all unfortunately.

I like phineas and ferb. I like Wild Kratts too.

Anything with too much singing though i dont care for.

I must respectfully disagree... The older Winchester 9422 XLR is one of the loveliest non-uber-premium .22 rifles ever made.
The Henry is an *excellent* budget version.

I always wanted the 9422M.... Waited too long...

Story of my life

Sorry about your friend, Todd.

WW I don't know much about the Akita or Shiba Inu, but it looks like a fuzzy bundle of joy.:D

I believe David was more responsible for the George Costanza character. Jerry's just... Jerry.

I "get" the humor, but was never a big fan. I think if I had to spend more than about 30 minutes with that many people who were that self-absorbed, neurotic and entitled in real life, I would almost certainly strangle them*. They sure made a metric crapton of money milking the same basic "joke" for the last 20 years or so, though... so what do I know. :D

*I worked briefly with a woman who was the spitting image of Elaine from Seinfeld, in both appearance and attitude. Yeah. Not nearly as much fun as it looks on TV. Being the model of cool-headedness and self-restraint that I am, I did manage to not strangle her. :p

I never found any humor in Seinfeld.. Cosmo was the only one I thought was funny, but not enough to watch the show.
I probably only saw a handful of episodes over the seasons it was in. Glad it got cancelled.

Yeah, I'm a curmudgeon.
