I'm looking at either a Mosin or a 10/22. I want a fun little plinker rifle. Something that isn't going to be terrible to shoot, or get me into trouble.
7.62x54r is a little more than .308 last I checked. I'd look for a mauser that's been converted to .308. They aren't hard to find but they are about twice as much as a Mosin. My M44 is fun to shoot. Big boom, but decently accurate. Trigger is mushy but light. If you get one with a stiff trigger they are easy to modify and lighten.
The 10/22 is pretty much the best all-around .22 rifle on the market. Accurate, reliable, durable, customize-able, and semi-automatic with 25 round mags is just plain fun.
I suppose I should get with the program. I've got two Yugo SKS's and no AK's. Just got 200 stripper clips in my last shipment o' gun stuff, but sold two packs of 20. Still, 160 stripper clips holds 1,600 rounds of ammo. That should last a while when the zombies attack. I have to confess, shooting the SKS is most fun I've had with my clothes on and not involving my wife in a very long time... A friend from work (former Army Ranger who blew out his knees on a jump..technically, it was the landing...) declared that the SKS is a "rifleman's rifle" for intermediate range.
Yeah. it's getting harder and harder to find decent "beater" guns and it doesn't help that a lot of people that don't know better think they can make them into an AK clone. End up spending more than what an AK costs to f**k up a perfectly good gun and make it a worthless hunk of crap.
AK's are a load of fun too. What I'd really like is a Mini-30 tactical.

The best of both worlds and then some but at the price of both put together.
