A Small Knife I've Been Playing With

The Wilderness Guide is nice I would have to give the handle a try before I buy. IMO The M1 sub should be 1/8" also. The only TOPs knife I have is the Key B. I got it to give the brand a try. I love it. The handle is better then I thought it would be and the edge is good. I did thin it a little. I was suprised at how much I like it. The more I look at the M1 sub the more I like it but 3/16 is about the max I like in a full sized knife let alone one that small.

Yeah, TOPS main market is the military so they tend to error on the side of strength and durability, though I have noticed some higher and thinner grinds coming out. I have a Wilderness Guide I just got in for a water bottle kit I am putting together for a friend who is moving to New Mexico. The handle is not bad for me, more comfortable than I expected considering my experiences with finger grooves. It's not a heavy knife so I like that for this particular person. It has a saber grind so more lateral strength than a 1/8 flat grind but still extremely sharp. It has nearly a neutral balance. I still need to check it out in the field, but so far I think it's a great little knife.

I think it's pretty darn nifty. Small enough to be discrete and not freak out the sheeple, big enough and a good geometry to be very useful, and stout enough to be very durable.

I bought a Delta Unit 3 because of this eval and it is an awesome little knife. I also got a blue otter and rogue wolf and have really started loving TOPS knives...Highly recommend their stuff...

Thanks man for chiming in. I'm glad you liked the review and liked your purchase. I've never handled a Blue Otter, but the Rogue Wolf is nice, I really like the grind on it. TOPS makes some great knives.

I also picked up a Spirit Hunter and it has brcome my go to woods knife. And you're from my neck of the woods..I'm from Fort Payne Al. just south...Keep up the evals, I look forward to them and new knives....

Ah cool. I know Fort Payne well. I like to go camping at Fort DeSoto, and the wife loves a little B&B in Mentone. Oh, I'm still playing with knives on a regular basis :)

I'm suprised you've not got one of the TOPS Lite Trekker's yet Mist, that's a knife that really appeals to me on paper.

I know that I am posting to a very old thread. That said, I too am a fan of thicker, stout, knives and have been wanting to make a change in my EDC from folder to fixed blade. The Delta Unit 3 appears to be just the knife to do the trick. Since time has past since this thread was active, did you continue to carry it, do you still like it, and have you found anything similar that you like more? Thanks for the great reviews and information!

I bought my DU3 because of this review and I still carry it and like it more everyday. Even though the blade is thick and short, it still cuts, slices, and shaves extremely well. I highly recommend this knife!

This knife is listed as Weight: 14.4oz? I've seen it listed at less than 8 oz. too, which would seem right for a 1/4" thick knife of this size. Over 14 oz. ? That's what it's mostly listed at, just wondering because it looks interesting but at nearly a pound for such a small blade?
