A Spyderco is like a Glock, their directness of function gives them a certain type of beauty, there is a strong visual style to their industrial design that is consistent along their product line. They are innovative in their initial design and then keep to their innovation while tuning, refining and adding minor variation, i.e. size and caliber and more. They are both high quality and efficient with their function leading their design
so then is a:
Benchmade like a Sig?
Kershaw like an HK?
Buck like a Colt?
Case like a Smith and Wesson?
Chris Reeves Knives like a Walther?
anyone else have any comparisons like this? :D

i think you nailed it. i have always thought of a Spyderco as a Glock. The other comparisons are good too. Nice Job

To me they're also like a Taurus 24/7 a lot of quality for the $! Nothing wrong with Glocks I use to have one and it was a good pistol.

I agree, and like your other comparisons. However I feel that Chris Reeves would be more like a Kimber. Classic styling, but higher end.

Opinels, Moras, Douk Douks are like Mosin Nagant rifles or perhaps Sten guns

i would of put it that way if we were in a gun forum, but since we are in a knife forum... well...
any other comparisons or elaborations?

I'm going to have to say, the Chris Reeves are more like a Les Baer. Still production, but wow.

I think I might also say that Kershaw is more like Ruger. Wide variety of products and all solid workmanship, and for good value.

I would disagree with the comparison. Spydercos are ergonomic and I actually like them.

Glocks are the opposite.

Some Spydercos are more Glock-like and some more Kimber-like

The gun hierarchy of those you mentioned goes like this:

1. HK
2. Sig
3. Glock
4.<brand> <-----Spyderco is here

And yes, I own each of these brands so I speak from experience

And lately Spyderco has been making their knives in China and Taiwan(Tenacious/Sage) so I wouldn't even give them Glock status.

Kimber and Les Baer are in a league of their own. I would say they would resemble a Busse/ChrisReeve

Oh no, 2 or so knives out of the whole catalogue.
Where has all the quality gone?
