A.T. Barr Collaboration /One-Eyed Jack

Interesting thread and perhaps a bit of confusion. A.T. and I have been friends for a long time. Personally I like all of his designs. Whether or not "I like it" is not what I use to make most designs.

The drill goes like this: the Designer makes a knife for us of his design (if possible). We show the design at: the SHOT show, the IWA show, The Blade magazine show, Spirit of Steel show and the November New York Kife show. We then determine from customer opinions whether or not there is enough interest in the design to invest the many many dollars necessry to bring a new design to the marketplace. If we don't get a large response, we back down.

We invite custom makers to make their designs when they ask, but I also let them know up front that if the design doesn't get a big "I want that one", we have to return the design. We've done this with a number of makers and there is always disappointment if we say no. Really a drag for me as well. The alternative is to just say no up front.

Can you think of a better way to test the design without a large investment? Whatchathink we oughta do?
