A Tigershark Elite In The Woods

Great Review. THis is worth a lot more to me than the 'destroy the knife" reviews.

Thanks.

While the destruction tests do tell a story, and offer up some useful information...I personally have always been more interested in what a knife can do than what it cannot do. I know from the out set that if I start chopping through concrete there is a good chance I'll soon be out a knife so..

GREAT REVIEW! and a great knife. I used to own the original tigershark and for the life of me i cannot figure out why i sold it.....

Thanks man, I appreciate that. It is a great knife.

I know the feeling...I later regretted giving my first SEAL Pup away

I own an original (Midnight Tigershark to be exact) and was really dismayed when they came out with this version. However, your review has me taking a second look at this knife, I might get one to add to my collection...

I like the originals. I like the old lines and the double tined guard.

Do you have an old Tigershark that you could compare the Elite to? I have an old SK5 Carbon steel version that I like and will take camping with me in 2 weeks. Would love to know how the old one and new ones compare for those kinds of tasks.

Also, I really enjoy your reviews. Plenty of pictures, usefull information and you use a knife the way it was intended to be used. Keep it up! Have you had a chance to test out the new Team Leader fixed blades? I've been eyeing the Team Leader Surviver for a while now and was drooling over it in the store yesterday. Would love to hear experiences with it. Thanks,

Heber

I don't have one but I'd think they'd be comparable on these tasks.

Haven't checked out the Team Leader yet, maybe I will. I like the looks of the design.

Another nice review Mistwalker.
I really enjoy reading your reviews not only for the comments on the knife, but also for getting to see some of the different things you make & do with them.
Thanks!
Cliff

Thanks, I am glad you enjoy them. I try to be creative and show good examples of what they can do, and what can be done. It gives me chances to keep my skills exercised.

Not my style knife. But you sure do make better traps than me. Great stuff.

He makes a damn sight better bird trap than I do, that's for sure.

Looks like a good knife. But I wish they offered it in PE instead of solely CE.

Another excellent review MW, you know your shit Mister.

Thank you for your compliments. You can't spend your life in the woods and not learn a few things. There are a few ways to do the bird snare, I'll try to do another version later. I had intended to do another type of snare but then just stumbled across that half hollow Birch tree and decided on that instead.

A plane edge version would be nice but given the size of this one, I like having them for a contengency...there is plenty of plain edge left on it for me to work with.

A question though:

Do you find the bird snare effective enough, in relation to the amount of time and effort it takes to make one (especially if you're using 10 or 12 of them)?

(I'm a big fan of simpler snares and the figure 4, myself)

The bird snare is hit and miss, and I have actually had more misses that hits with it, and it's a pain to get the trigger tension right to hold the string and still trigger easily enough to catch birds but I have used variations to catch squirrels and have had more luck with that. Those were in an attempt to stay alive, I'm not at all sure it's legal. It is good to have options as you never know what your available options will be "out there". It's also beter if you can find your tension closer to the hole to minimize cordage use. Mainly I just do these things as a way to keep my skills sharp, test the knives, and be not so redundant as to be boring.

It's a real pleasure to see a dirty knife once in a while. Nice review, very comprehensive and useful. Makes me want to go out and whack some brush. (I did use my Felco #2 prunners today to clear some small oak limbs blocking my view out of the driveway, not quite as "Rambo" as your experience, but enjoyable just the same:)

I got some funny looks earlier tonight from the people driving by while I was clearing the few hedge limbs and honeysuckle vines hanging out and blocking my view at the end of the drive way....I was using this knife's little brother, I could just imagine the looks I'd have gotten had I been using this one, I may just make a point of doing that next time :D ...hope the funny looks I get then aren't from a deputy
