I have this knife in my collection and it is amazing. If I had to grab just one knife in a hurry I believe it would be this one. It really fits every situation. Yes, it's huge but it's easy to choke up on to handle detailed functions as was mentioned and I'd rather have too much knife than not enough. My Tech II is my favorite knife overall but it's really not a tactical knife... I'm mostly writing in regards to the temp question. These newer AUS-8 SOGs are "cryogenically tempered" and then brought back to ambient. A different way of relaxing the molecules. I'm only guessing here but I would say neg 40 F would be no problem as they take them to an amazingly low temp in the process.
