Perspective is a powerful action. It can take you down a road of darkness every day or, it can be the light needed in a day of darkness. I have been thinking about Bob (BigBiscuit) a lot lately and how he has a perspective of light and how it shines through into this forum.

It is also the time of year to reflect and see what you, we, have to be thankful for. It could be the smallest gesture such as Bob’s avatar pic, the knowledge shared here, or the more meaningful things such as friendship, family, faith, love, overcoming a bad habit or addiction, and the practical, a job, a working car, a dog that is house trained.

In honor of Bob, during this time, I thought it would be good to do a GAW and ask you to list a few things you are thankful for, maybe throw in a few pics of those things, and just slow down for a few seconds and remember those fighting through something.

I have another GAW going on in the GAW sub-forum, but I wanted to limit this one to the traditional porch family. I’ll pick a winner for the knife on the day after Thanksgiving and ship it out when I can. Anyone who is regular here can post.

All the best to you all.

EDIT:

A new knife added:

HalfStop (Ron) sent me an email stating that he would love to pass on a knife that he received from Bob. He will ship it out the Monday after Thanksgiving, when he can.

Ron, I really appreciate the addition. You're a good man my friend. Thank you.

What happened? Where's Bob? How is he doing? is he ok?! Bob, bigbiscuit's avatar picture is adorable, it makes me laugh when I see it. I always thought that was his baby picture or his kid's or grandkid's. I bought this from Bob actually, and he was very nice to put up with a small wait when I was still deciding if I wanted it or not. Bob reached out and gave me a gentle nudge into the barlow pattern. And thank you, for the opportunity! :) im thankful for all the knives i already have, so not an entry as well, just thankful for the wonderful people in this community and everyone who has reached out to teach me something about the traditional knife world.

Edit to reflect, not an entry

Not an entry Brett but I started out here pretty unknowing of traditionals and any info on them besides the inner workings of a SAK and I must say, due to the friendship of several it was an easy learning curve in obtaining knowledge about slipjoints and other things such as motorcycles from Bob and Jake. Thankful for friendship and bonds.

I'm fairly new to the traditional forum, but I've learned a lot thanks to you guys. So, I'm thankful for this forum to peruse through during my down time. Another thing I'm thankful for is my 3 year old son is FINALLY potty trained! He's stubborn just like his mom and brother, so I guess he just made up his mind. Thanks for the opportunity!

I honestly have so much to be thankful for. Though we had a year (decade) with a lot of loss of life, we are starting a new adventure early next year! I have a stressful but very stable job, an incredible wife who is more than I ever asked for, a great home and cabin, more knives than I could ever sharpen away, working vehicles, and a very good year hunting. It's been a melancholy year, but I think it's all looking up looking forward!

Congratulations, Macchina! Fantastic news and you are in for the adventure of your life!!

This forum has really done its work introducing me to traditional knives. I didn't really appreciated the value and practicality of a well built, simple, yet beautiful traditional knife until I came here. So, I'm extremely thankful for all of you on here who make that happen on a daily basis.

I've been a part of the BFC for a few years now, but only recently ventured into the Traditional sub. I was looking to expand my experience in the knife collecting world. Within a few weeks BigBiscuit was kind enough to contact me and offer up a knife I had been looking for but was unable to get. I really appreciated that, and bought it from him without hesitation. I hope all is well with him and wish him the best.

I'm also thankful for a few personal triumphs as well. Recently moved into a new house and things at work are looking pretty good.

With all that said, "Thanks for the GAW. I'm in."

Macchina, congratulations on and with your new adventure. You have a lot to be thankful for!!:)

GIVE THANKS ...
- If you have food in a fridge, clothes on your back, a roof over your head, you are richer than 75% of the world.
- If you have money in the bank, in your wallet and some change in a dish or jar somewhere, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.
- If you can read, you have been blessed. Over 2 billion people in the world today can not read.
- If you prayed today you are in the minority, because you believe in God's willingness to hear and answer prayer.
- If you own a Bible your blessed. 1/3 of the world has no access to one.

I am grateful to Jesus who gave me all these plus eternal life, my wife, children, grandchildren, friends, health, abilities and every good thing that pertain to life and godliness.

KBA, thanks for thinking of this thread.
Bob, you are in our prayers.

edit; Since one of Bob's former knives was added, I'd like to change this from "Not an entry" to definitely COUNT ME IN, thanks.:)

Thankful for all of these things as well as close friends and family I can share good times with and depend on during the bad.

Of course my first reaction is to say I am thankful for my small collection of fine knives. But there is SOOO much more.
I'm grateful that I've been granted a new lease on life. I spent 22 of my 25 years on earth just taking anything and everything that I was remotely interested in. I completely disregarded everyone who ever loved me. I felt hopeless. I thought I would never know true happiness.
Today I am grateful that I have hope and a faith that gets me through the day when nothing else will. I truly love and care about the people around me. I am loved and cared about.

I never really got to know Bob, but he was one of the first of many familiar names here. I may not of known him on a personal level, but it was quite obvious that he was one of the "good guys." One of those guys that really makes this place so special. I really wish him the best.

Macchina – Way to go brother!! Congrats on the new adventure. :D:thumbup::thumbup:

Bob is having, or has had recently, a bone marrow transplant. I wasn't sure if you knew so I thought I would catch a few up.
Carry on and thanks for the post.

I'm in, Macchina congratulations, you are going to learn about a whole new type of love, you will lose sleep as well as patience but at the end of the day it is all worth it.
I am thankful for the ability to give my kids a life I didn't have growing up, as well as be able to buy a new knife here and there. I'm thankful for a loving supportive wife who deals with my addiction...I mean hobby lol.
In a time of materialism and the race to be the best, sometimes people forget to just slow down and be thankful for what you already have. I am more than guilty of this.

I'll bow out of the GAW, as Brett as been more than generous to me already.

I'm probably not thankful enough day to day, so I appreciate the call to action. It's easy to get mired in what's going wrong, to lose faith, or forget how much you're truly blessed.

The last 4 years have been tough for many reasons, but over that time I've been blessed with a great girlfriend, finally affording a nice house with a pool, a challenging job that keeps me fed ...and most importantly a handful of really good friends and family. I am also very proud to be an American, even with the ebbs and flows.

Last, but certainly not least, my virtual friends here, many of which I hope to meet over the coming years as I have done with the Kershaw/ZT crowd. I have a few more people to seek out at Blade Show this year and I might just be able to make it to the next Rendezvous. ;)

The list of things I'm thankful for is pretty long. I have a lovely wife (and we both like eachother), two handsome healthy little boys. I'm in the process of buying the house I'm in. I have gainful employment in the field I studied for.

As the last few years have progressed, I've had to sell off most of my nice knives to pay bills or taxes, etc. In fact, I'm most likely going to sell off my last few. One custom, and two expensive production.

But I find that I am not discontent with the knives I've got left. My traditional choices are very satisfying. I get a lot of pleasure from a well put together traditional pattern.

First the last several post on the Carl's Lounge thread (on a sticky on the first page of the traditional forum) have been about Bob and his health. Second I have so much to be thankful for I spent 5 months last year in the hospital 6/15 til 11/17. Wasn't supposed to live, but I did. Not supposed to be able to walk again, but I can. Married to my best friend almost 40 years, 4 grown kids, 13 grandkids and though this isn't popular these days I know Jesus personally, I am an American and the list goes on. Thanks for the GAW.

Thanks for the thoughtful posts everyone. It made me slow down a little bit today and think about what is important. I know about Bob´s health "issues" and I pray for a speedy and fully recovery. He is a fine man and a great guy. It makes me proud to call him a friend.

The best that ever happened to me in my whole life until now was my son Maximilian. He is 22 months old now and the most important thing in my life. I´m so grateful that he is healthy and everything is alright with him.

Nice! What a thoughtful GAW. I'm in.

Pretty sure I'm most thankful for a wonderful family, who put up with me and my crazy gun and knife addiction. Also thankful for this forum, that has opened my eyes to even more of the knife world that I never knew existed.

Please forgive me for not posting a pic of my Fam. But in exchange, here is a pic of a few knives with meaning to me. On top is the only knife I have that was used by my father, who taught me that life was about more than the "things" we fill it with. Second (the oversized hobo) is my first knife received on my fifth birthday....a long long time ago. [emoji12] Next is the Boker Folding Hunter that was a gift from my in-laws. And last, the GEC American Jack and Coopersmith Barlow I plan to hand down to my son at some in the future.

Thanks to all who have helped make this such a great place.
